Default Smith & Wesson 640 Pro Series & Smith & Wesson 60 Pro Series

I've been looking at both of these revolvers for waist conceal carry. The weight of both models are proximately the same even with the Model 60's longer .875 inch barrel. Despite the barrel, the 60 won't be a greater concealment problem. The 640 is the ultimate snubby, while the 60 has the sight radius advantage when shooting beyond four yards. I checked Smith & Wesson's website, but I was unable to find any specifications of the ejector rods for these revolvers. I believe I couldn't go wrong with either model and 60's internal lock can be disabled. I know that the 640 has a larger ejector rod than other J frames. Does the 60 also have an extended ejector rod?

Both good choices. I would go 640 pro because I carry a 640.

I own both.. For IWB I like the 640 pro. For OWB I like the 60. That the only thing different I can say is noticeable. I prefer the 60 over the 640 in general although the stock grips on the model 60 are a handful if using 357 magnums. I replaced them with SW J frame combat grips. The U Mikes on the 640 pro were fine with the .357 loads.

I have a 640 , 640 pro , 60 . The sixty is my favorite , but the 640 pro is a better carry because of those sights.

Guys, thanks for the helpful comments. Do you know whether the Model 60 had a longer ejector rod than the other J Frames. The longer ejector rod makes reloading a J Frame much easier especially because there are times when the ejecting cartridge will strike the grip.

The ejector rod has to be short enough for 357 cases to clear the grip. In a gun this size, you will only get cases to easily clear in 38 Special. The 357 cases work okay, but there is a technique required for unloading with speed. Some grip styles simply don't allow for the 357 case length.

My 60 Pro is fantastic with Hogue nylon combats. I just had an issue on my 60-10 where the Altamont oversize combat for J frame worked only for 38 Special and I am awaiting new grips that are slimmer and more cutaway behind the open cylinder.

I am not sure what you are thinking with your concern about ejectors, but it sounds like you should not buy a gun primarily intended to accommodate .357 Magnum, when you intend to shoot 38 Special.

My 640 was a joy with a great trigger, but too heavy for pocket or ankle carry. Sold and bought a 642, not near the gun. Have a 60-15 also. 642 kicks with 38+p like the 640 with 357s. For IWB I would go 640, wish I had kept it.
