Odd question, I'm sure, but... I got my 36-10 3" at the sacrifice of my 642 Pro. Absolutely no regrets about the purchase/sale. However, given the extra size (length) of the 3-inch barrel, and my general disdain for (tucked) IWB carry (carry all the time, must be ABSOLUTELY concealed at work), I'm considering ankle carry. The 3" KINDA carries in my pocket - but it's a struggle to keep it planted where it needs to be, unlike the x42 series.

I'd carried a G26 for some time with a Galco Ankle Glove, and really got to like the method quite well. Would a 3" carry okay like this, or is the barrel too long for the ankle holsters out there? I surely don't want an exposed barrel hanging out unprotected (or revealed to the world, for that matter).

Anyone out there in Smith-ville carrying a 3" in this manner?

Thanks!

I carry a 2" on my ankle and don't see why a 3" would be a problem.

I'm really not overly concerned about the size of the gun. But, since the Galco model I'm looking at is listed as the same model # for both the 2" and 3", my main concern is exposed barrel for wear, tear, debris, etc. How much extra room is there for longer barrel in your rig? What rig do you run?

I'm retired law enforcement and have carried all kinds of guns in all kinds of ways. My favorite method is to pocket carry a lightweight 2'' J frame in a pocket holster. Actually, the gun choice should be made taking the carry method into consideration.
That being said, how about pulling your sock up over the end of that 3" barrel?

Guess I could... but I'm usually wearing work boots, not sure how that will go with the ankle holster already riding above....

Have you ever considered a shoulder rig under your shirt or one of those T-shirts with a holster built into it? Man, I can't believe you traded a great carry gun (hammerless alloy 2") for a 3" 36!

Not yet but I've thought about it.

As others have mentioned I've packed both a 2" M38 and M49, (using a Renegade Partner ankle rig) many a day with great comfort and security. I doubt packing a 3" which I'm sorely tempted to do with this M36 would be any different.

I assume I'd have no problems in the actual carry. My concern is whether there's enough holster to cover the extra 1" of barrel, or that the system will accomodate the longer barrel. I dont' believe there'd be a problem in the carry method itself.

And, BTW, SWEET 36!

Whoops, sorry I read over that part of your post. I don't know if you can find a Renegade Partner any more but I can check mine when I get home and see if that M36 is exposed in it. Might be an option if other holsters don't pan out. Thanks for the compliment.

I don't think you will have any issues with the 3". I carry a 1.875" 642CT in a Bianchi Ankle holster for over 12 hours a day in 6" Redwing work boots with no issues. The holster sits right on the top of my boot and never wants to slid down, and is open on the bottom to fit a longer barreled revolver if needed.
