Default Holster recommendation - 686+ 4" and 586 6"

Looking for a few comments on a quality leather holster for my 4" 686+.

While I'm at it, what about a holster for my 6" 586?

Basically, these would be field and woods holsters unless I get crazy and decide to open carry the 686+ after the new law goes into effect here in Texas. Which I won't......except on my friend's ranch. And I can do it there anyway; he never minds guns and shooting at his place - which is why we go there!

Oh, let me note, OWB belt holsters is what I had in mind, not hip holsters like I carry my single action revolvers in. But the 6" gun, well, that's an interesting issue.......comments please!

I find that vintage Bianchi 5 holsters for Colt 357 fit my 4" and 6" 686 very well.

I use a Sparks PMK, for my 4" 686 no dash. This model is quite secure, comfortable, & actually conceals 4" L - N frame revolvers very well - w/ an un-tucked cover garment.

I think a 6" would hang out a bit though.

Very hard to beat Milt Sparks workmanship - & customer service. I own 7 or 8 Sparks holsters for different handguns. Tried holsters from a few other "famous makers", but they just never worked out, for one reason - or another...

Go to Lobo's website and pick out what you like. The enhanced pancake would carry very good for either the 4" or 6". (But you will need two different holsters, unless you don't mind one 2" too long for the 4").

I bought the Bianchi 111 cyclone. It can be worn cross draw or strong side. It fits the 686+ 4" like a glove.

Wyatt burp made me a IWB floral in oak leaves for roughly 100.00. Thought it was a good price for a carved holster new, very happy with it. Your 4" 19 would look good in one also. Check out the holster section to get some ideas. Larry

I'm very pleased with the R. Grizzle GS2 I purchased for my 4" 66-2 for that very same purpose, including the belt and speed strip carrier:

The snaps make it a breeze to put on and take off, plus it distributes the weight of the gun very well. It also holds the butt in tight enough that the target grips dig into my ribs. If you don't need to carry that close for the field and woods, then I'd go for Ryan's "Working Man" holster, which I gather from Ryan is even more comfortable at the expense of some conceal-ability.

I have a Lobo Enhanced Pancake for a 3" K frame. I can put a 4" K in it but the barrel sticks out the bottom by an inch (of course.) The 3" gun draws like a dream. Drawing the 4" gun requires an extra inch of lift of the grip before the barrel clears the leather, but it's do-able, and I could get used to it if I ever started to carry the 4".

A 6" barrel, though, would be really tough to get out of a holster that put the grip/cylinder/trigger in the same position relative to the belt. I should think a holster for a 6" barrel would have to carry the gun lower relative to the belt if the draw is going to be comfortable.

I'd absolutely recommend one of the Lobo pancakes for the 4" gun. But I'd get one first, and see what the draw is like. If you think you could pull the gun up another 2" on the draw, and be comfortable doing it, then go ahead and order another one for the longer gun. Otherwise, consider a different design.

I like the Bianchi Cyclone for my revolvers in the field. They can be worn strong side or cross draw, well made with suede lining, and good protection for the gun and trigger.

The come in a variety of sizes. I use one for my S&W 629-5 mountain gun as well as a smaller size for my S&W model 66.

I agree with GCF's comments about the Milt Sparks PMK holster.

I also like the Sparks HSR crossdraw holster Milt Sparks Holsters for longer barrel revolvers. I can't get comfortable with anything over 4" bbl strong side.

I generally prefer crossdraw carry (or chest carry) for field holsters; I'm usually wearing a pack or have something slung over my shoulder.

Thanks, y'all. I'll play with the concept but I think I'm there.
