I found this Dan Wesson .357 revolver for sale and I'm wondering what it is worth. The owner has indicated that it looks brand new. I know at one time these revolvers where considered a very good product but it's been a long time since I've thought about one. Anyone have any ideas on the value? Let me know. Thanks, Elliot45

I'm guessing that's a Model 14, 714, 8, or 708 which all look the same. According to the 2013 Standard Catalog of Firearms, Condition: Good = $125, V.G. = $250, Exc. = $350. NIB = $400. From what I can tell from the one picture it would probably rate V.G. provided all the mechanics are good. These were always known to be good shooters as the tension could be adjusted on the barrel.

That appears to be a model 15-2 6v.

Prices in my area for a clean example would be $375-$475. Extras worth inquiring about are the barrel tool and feeler gauge for setting barrel gap.

New barrel tools can also be had from EWK arms, and he also makes new barrel assemblies.

CZUSA is also offering replacement barrels and barrel shrouds.

Good luck with the purchase !

Thanks for everyone's replies, appreciate it. The owner wants $550 which according to the responses I've received appears to be on the high side. I like the appearance of the gun but I think I will stick with S&Ws. I really don't need a shooter as I have a 686+ 7 shot Pro and a 4" Model 27 nickel. I've been looking for a nice Model 19 but just happened to see this and it caught my eye. If it was a really good deal I might have jumped on it. Regards, Elliot45

I have a few Dan Wessons, for a357 model 14 $350-$400 / 357 model 15 under $500. If they come with extra barrels add about $50 for every barrel under 6 inches. If you have the 8 inch add $100 and the 10 $125.. make sure it comes with the barrel removing tool, barrel wrench. great revolves.

The 12 inch barrel and 15 inch barrel add about 2 to 3 hundred dollars for those big boys

But then again if you really want a Dan Wesson, go for it! I paid too much for a model 15... came with box paperwork and 5 barrels and wrench!

That's a 15-2, no V. These were the standard model 15-2's. Add a vent rib and it became a 15-2V. Add a full underlug and it became the 15-2H. Add both and it became the 15-2VH. I believe the 14 and 14-2 were the fixed sight variants. For that 15-2 with the 6" barrel, I'd say $350 - $475.

EWK arms specializes in Dan Wesson accessories selling both OEM barrels and shrouds as well as their own. The also have the wrenches and feeler gauge for barrel changes.

Very accurate guns and these were significant in the handgun silhouette game because of it.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

My first hand gun was a Dan Wesson model 15, with three barrels. I was 15 and always regretted selling it to buy my first car.

Ahem, excuse me people...

What something is worth is determined by what people are willing to ACTUALLY pay for it.

If the link below doesn't work as I intend, then go to Gunbroker and do your own "Advanced" search on COMPLETED auctions using the search term "Dan Wesson Revolver".

While prices will vary (naturally), I don't think that Dan Wesson revolvers are as low-dollar as some people here think they are.

I have one of each that I bought brand new (.22, .357, and .44mag), and each of them are fitted and finished, and shoot every bit as accurate, as any of my Smiths or Colts. Just sayin'.

Oh, and in that link below, note not just what the finished auctions go for, but be especially observant at how many people bid on each auction. Whatever they sell for, Dan Wessons sure do seem to get a lot of "interest" from an awful lot of people.
Of note, I didn't see anyone trying to "give one a way".

I've been on a K-frame jag for a while, so I'm haunting the LGSs and gun shows in my area. I've run into a few DW .357s, and they seem to be under valued here, at least compared to an S&W. I've never had one, but I'm very tempted. The cylinder latch may take some getting used to, but the design seems very solid.

I know of a DW that I possibly could buy but the cylinder doesn't lock up tight and there may be some slop in the back and forth movement of the cylinder. Is there a way to fix these problems. The gun is kinda rough so would not want to spend to much on it.

DW endshake (a common problem in well shot guns) can be fixed (if not outrageous) with cylinder shims.
I have added one or 2 to my 7445-HV.
The crane lock is another matter and I would have a good gunsmith take a look at that.
I did not know that either CZUSA or EWK were back in the barrel and shroud business.
I am wanting another shroud so as to easily switch between scope and iron sights.
You might want to join the Dan Wesson forum.
Not a lot of activity there any more but a great repository of DW knowledge.

Memo, thanks for the pic of your 445 SuperMag !

With all of the attention paid to the 'big-bore' pistols these days, I'm surprised that the 445 SM doesn't get more love.

Dan Wesson is also missing the boat by not producing a new 460 or 500 on the SM frames.

I agree with Decker. If anyone can find me a NIB or Excellent .357 Dan Wesson for under $400 I will send you a $100 bill for a finders fee. I made a $350 offer on a beat up shooter at a recent gun and the seller would budge from $400.

You can get a 445 custom on the BFG 444 frame but that cylinder is ridiculously long.
As well, the custom barrel makers especially for the T/C Encore are turning out 445's regularly.
There are/were a few other break action single shot rifles in 445.
I have tried to convince Big Horn Armory, who makes the 500 S&W magnum carbine to make one in 445
which would be the perfect lever action for all the 1.6" rounds.
They say they are too busy :(
I would buy an X Frame 445 if they offered one.
Might be able to make it a 6 shooter like the DW too.

When CZ took over Dan Wesson they completely ignored the revolvers and concentrate on making what the world needs most: another 1911 clone.
They would not even give me directions on how to disassemble the revolver (over the years I forgot).
Luckily it's not that hard and the forum has all that info.
