Model 586 5” Barrel?

....has S&W ever offered the 586 in a 5” configuration?

Not that I've ever seen. If there is such a thing it would of been a limited run for a distributor's special order, and would possibly have other non-standard features (like being some kind of commemorative).

A 5 inch M586 would be fantastic, but none have been made (or at least none have surfaced to date).

As mentioned, the M686 was made in 5 inch barrel versions, the first being the Bill Davis gun, then there were two additional models (who knows, maybe more.. :) )

Here's a 5 inch half lug version for the Stocking Dealer program:

And here's the Hi Viz version for the Stocking Dealer program:

Neither of the above appealed to me, so I had one made in the right configuration - M686-4, using a Factory full lug 5" barrel (probably a left over from the Hi Viz model).

I know it's not as safe as the later versions, but I'll live with it... :)

I don't like the half-lug N frames.
They look too much like a Taurus.
The full lug is what differentiates, visually, the L frame from the other frame sizes.

As long as we have now seem to have included 686's in the mix, is everyone forgetting the current Talo Distributor Special - the 3-5-7 series. 686's with unfluted cylinders and Altamont laminated grips in 3", 5" or 7" barrel lengths?

Either current or very recent - see them popping up on the gun auction sites every now and then.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Thanks for all of the responses everyone...

If I can’t get a 5” 586 I might just go with a 6” as I already have a 686-6 4” in stainless and I want to get a 357 in blue.

Thanks,

Karl
