I am on the verge of purchasing a Governor. Can anyone say what size grips will fit on this thing? I've seen all sorts of information online and I can't find anything certain, hence me asking here.

I would want the smallest possible grips for it.

Many thanks in advance!

Excellent looking revolver!

Is a boot cut shorter than a regular cut? I'll be wanting the smallest profile grip for my new Governor.

the boot cut stops at the end of the grip frame, usually leaving the bottom exposed. the standard grips cover and go past the end of the frame.

That ought to make it shorter then...not a whole lot, but every bit helps.

Thanks again for your time!

Shorter than what? Does the Governor you're purchasing have oversize grips? The grips shown by Roy P are the same as the grips that S&W furnished with the Governor that I bought new.

It would have the factory grips. It would seem that an L frame boot cut grip would be smaller in size than the factory grips. Am I mistaken?

I bought my Governor four years ago and the factory grips are the same as the "boot grips" shown in Roy P's post. I don't pay much attention to new ones in the showcase nowadays, because I already have one, so I don't know if the grips are different on Governors sold today. I would guess not.
Are you ordering the gun without holding it in your hand first?
I seem to recall that there were posts I read in the past with regard to what oversize grips would fit the Governor. I know that I would not ever be looking for smaller size grips for my Governor, especially wood grips. I load my 45 Colt rounds pretty hot and the Hogue grips have a good "grippiness" that works well.

I've held a stainless Governor, so I know how it feels. I will want to get the lowest profile grips possible for it. I've seen what seem to be termed "conceal carry" boot grips for the L frame, and they seem to be about what I would want.
