Help need some info on a 586 please
Hi
I found a model 586-3 and need some info please. It comes with box and the end label lists B TS RR WO.
The gun has a round butt, is this correct? Also the gun is a matte finish, is this correct?
The target stocks are gone but all else seems correct but I have never incountered one with a matte finish.
Any help on this would be much appreciated
Thanks Graydog

There are two series of numbers on the label. One is called the Product Code (six-digits) and the other the Spec. Ord. number (four-digits).
What are those numbers?
In addition, the serial number?
(Obscure the last two digits of the s/n if you like).

Ship date is May 30, 1989, based on the spec. ord. number.
I don't know if these had a matte finish. Maybe it says something in the book. The "B" feature code is used with normal blue guns, so that code is nothing special.
1989 was before the time when S&W converted all of their revolvers to round butt. In 1989 a 6-inch gun would typically be square (not always), so it is something kinda special.

I agree with bigggbbruce. You have a gun I haven't seen very often. It is supposed to have the Matte finish is also referred to as a glass bead finish. Your revolver is circa 1989. The few I have seen have round butts and Hogue rubber grips which I suspect is "correct" for that revolver but(t) I cannot confirm that.
It might be worth noting other, non-special order, 586-3's (dash 3's) had square butts and in 1995-1996 square butts were deleted by S&W across its line.
