Model 15-4 date of manufacture please
Everyone,
After returning to my "first love" (Smith & Wesson revolvers), I picked up a model 15-4 that I would like to check the ship date on.
It's a 4", square butt, in good shape with replacement grips (hogue wood grips added by me to replace the Pachmeyer abominations that were on it when I bought it.
The serial number is ACW44xx
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I know what you mean - I have an old 67 that shoots like a dream. Great balance and super double-action trigger.

Congrats. I also have an older 67 no dash and it's one of the best shooting revolvers I own.

Great choice to get back into the fold. I have a 15-4 with a 2 inch barrel that shoots just about as good as my 6 inch Md 14. They are great guns.

The single action trigger on this 15 feels better than the triggers on some of my "custom" 1911s. The double action is smooth and consistent, very shootable.
I guess I forgot that, at one time, a major manufacturer actually knew how to make a truly fine gun on a production basis. No custom work is needed on this one, except grips.

Regarding grips, I've learned to really like (not love) the stock square butt magnas on my 2" 15-4 and my 6" 14-2. They aren't exactly what I would prefer but the LOOK is just so RIGHT! Anything else would just not be proper. Well...maybe period correct factory targets on the 6" 14 would be acceptable.
Oh, I totally agree with you regarding the function of these guns. Who would want to mess this kind of quality.
