My only issue with square butt Hogue grips...
Anybody know why Hogue decided to leave that big flap of rubber on the right side of the square butt Hogue grips, but on the round butt versions both sides are relieved? I hate it, and I think most people know a set of Hogues when they see them so why put a logo on there that big? I actually like them otherwise?

I don't know why. It is a little un-slightly, but so are rubber grips in general. Don't get me wrong, I like the way they feel in the hand, and that's really the only reason I'd have them on a pistol. I actually have Pacs on my Official Police, but it's a tucked-away emergency gun, so I don't care.
I do like Hogue, though! I have them on a couple, one is this SR. I don't shoot bear busters all the time, but when I do, these tame it somewhat, and it's not uncomfortable at all. And I don't have big hands.

And for whatever reason, grip frames rust under rubber grips.
All mine are wood, except for one pair of Sanbar stags.

I am just a big fan of factory wood stocks. I have a couple sets on the way to me now.

Precisely the reason why, as a precaution, I apply a little CLP under all stocks wherever they touch the frame.
Rubber definitely has its place, though. It requires less upkeep than wood when exposed to sweat during the summer months.

Rubber grips are:
-Cheaper than any other option
-More comfortable in my hands than any wood grips
-Effective at absorbing felt recoil in heavy calibers
-Don't cause rust any more than wood grips do.

I absolutely agree, I only wish the square butt Hogues didn't have that extra rubber covering up my S&W roll markings. In my younger day I tried to cut the rubber on the right side to match the right side, it didn't turn out very good. I think I ended up tossing them. I run the round butt Hogues on my Mod 66 no dash sometimes. I do like them.

I'm also a fan of the RB K-frame Hogues. They seem to be the right balance between concealability and handling.
Their rubber monogrip for Colt D frames works especially well for me also, having small-ish hands and all.

I always assumed that's exactly why it was like that -- look who's roll mark happens to take over.

And yet they somehow persuaded S&W to make them the factory original grips on guns like the 29-3 Classic Hunter. That flap of rubber covering the roll marks isn't the only thing I don't like about them, but it is one of the things I dislike most about them. They are just plain ugly, but they work and feel pretty good...

Not if you clean under them regularly just like you should under ALL grips.

Wood breathes, rubber doesn't.

I don't need to revisit anything. I have never had an instance of grip frame rusting after many years of Hogue use.

As an alternative, you might want to look at the Pachmayr gripperpro grips. Fairly smooth sided.

I take my rubber grips off now and then and clean underneath. Seems to keep the rust issue under control though I have discovered a few spots now and again.

Well, my only issues with the Hogues are that they're rubber and they're ugly as sin. I also believe (although I have no data to back it up) they attract moisture.
Bet Jordan, Keith, Askins, and Skelton never used rubber grips on their revolvers.

Quite possibly because they were manly men with large hands whose breakfast was a cup of black coffee and a Marlboro and who used pine cones instead of toilet paper....... Much like Keith44

I feel the same abguys who add rubber butt pads to their surplus rifle. All those men in ww2 had no problems shooting the way they were. And what's with the crying "my shoulder hurts" after 5 rounds of 06, 303, 8mm, 7.62x54? What's wrong with dumping a tin of 400 rounds?
