Default Polishing a 642-2?

Would y'all polish an aluminum frame gun? I really like the old nickel plated j frames with the small wood grips. I had a 642-2 that I traded a few years ago but now I got the option to buy it back a a good price. I had the gun dura coated before I got rid of it because the clear coat was coming off. I didn't like the dura coat, but was thinking about getting the gun back and polishing it. Would it corrode being polished aluminum? I might just go buy a new 638 because I've been wanting a bodyguard, if the polish corrodes.

I can't offer an opinion about the metallurgical issues here, but I steer away from the bright nickel-style finishes, however they are applied. I have difficulty getting a sight picture in any kind of light with nickel; of course, those are my eyes talking! You may want to see if this matter will affect you before applying/doing it. There's a lot more about a finish on a carry gun than simply how it looks...
