Default Rear sight for Model 60 Pro

Got the missus a Model 60 Pro 38 Sp'l. last year. She loves it, but complains about the sights (we shoot at an indoor range, and the light levels aren't that great).
I was looking at some Tru-Glo front sights at the local shop, but the smith there told me nobody makes a decent rear sight for it.
Any help?
Thanks,

J-frames are especially tough because they're not used much in competition.

I'd try S&W parts dept, see what they have, if anything.

I'm not real cognizant of J-frame sight configurations. I see the Pro 60 has an adjustable rear and a pinned-blade front. Is the rear sight a standard round tang sight? Is the top-strap drilled & tapped? If so, there are several options. If D&T'd you can easily install an LPA rear sight. They also make sight sets with or without fiber optics.

If you just want a cleaner sight picture or a lower profile than what the LPA's afford, there are Bowen's Rough Country sights.

You didn't specify what Tru Glo sights you are considering. Tritium (night sights)? Fiber optics? If the latter, FO's only enhance ambient light. There would be no improvement in a low light indoor range. If you think tritium will help, there's a chance that there is enough light in the indoor range to render them ineffective.

Maybe just a good, black, target type rear blade (like the Bowen or non- FO LPA) and a gold bead front sight. You may also want to consider changing notch and blade width to arrive at the best combination.

Not to denigrate the J-frame, but it's not a target gun and the fact that the Pro already has S&W adjustable sights, already puts you ahead of the majority of J-frames.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

He can't. J-frame sights are smaller. LPA doesn't make one that fits a J-frame. That's why I said J-frames are "especially tough". None of the solutions commonly used on N-frames, L-frames, and K-frames will work (guns that are used in competition).

Plus, I don't know if they're D&T. I think they aren't, but could be wrong.

If you really want to get rid of the night sight on the front of your Pro 60, my best instructor advice is to put the truglo on the front and tell your wife to stop looking at the rear sight.
An FO front and plain black rear are what I use for IDPA revolver (Model 66, 646) as do many others. It's not a bullseye pistol, and when time counts (as in defense) it's front sight, front sight

P.S. I have an old model 60 3" .38 with adjustable black rear sight and a blob of white paint on the front sight. Easy to hit a cup every shot at 15 yds

Hey, thanks guys!!

Yeah, J's aren't the most target-shooter friendly, but all my K's are "too heavy and my hands don't fit right". From the first time she picked up the 60 at the gunshop, she's been in love with it. So, I figured I'd try whatever I could to help her shoot it better. She'll go through 100 rounds twice a week at the range, and has an absolute blast doing it. Last year, in fact, she told me "from now on, buy me guns for anniversaries, birthdays and Christmas, not jewelry..", so I'm constantly trying to find ones that will fit her.

We're headed to the range tomorrow morning - the smith at the range promised he'd have the Truglo front sight installed, so we'll see what happens.

My apologies for not knowing more about exactly WHICH sight it is.

She's done pretty well with it, as is, after I dabbed some white paint on the front and rear sights, but, my niece has some kind of high-vis optics on her LCR, and my wife just loves them; that's why I was trying to see if I could get something to match.

OKFCO5 - I'll give her your advice!!

Thanks again for the informative replies!!
