686 Snub Pics?
I really like the looks of the 686 Pro Series SSR .357
But a 4 inch barrel means HD or Competition for us here.
My wife would be better off with the 686 2.5 inch Snubby.
I've shot and owned 2 inch Model 19s and 66s before and really want
the L-frame for durability with Magnum loads.
Please post your 686 snub.

Dang! Found one locally on Armslist a few weeks ago for $850. Seller wouldn't take $800. After thinking about it for a couple hours, I messaged the seller to say I would take it for his asking price, but it was too late. I snoozed and l loozed.

2.5" Performance Center 686 Plus at far right. Wearing Hogue Bantam grips. I prefer the 3" version next to it.

My brother in law bought his first handgun and chose a 3" seven shooter. He loves it and my eyes lit up when I saw his choice of gun. Here it is here.

I know this is an old post, but wow this is what I have been looking for forever!! I've seen one picture of a 686 with magna grips and they were the old school magnas, the ones you have look like the new ones S&W offers. I have been trying so hard to find a picture of a 586 snub with magna grips, but to no avail. I even made a post about 586 snubs and I've gotten a bunch of pics, but I keep asking people to put magnas on it and post pics but no one has. I saw the 686 picture with magnas before and ever since I have wanted a 586 and I would put old school magnas on it with a shiny brass t grip on it. I'm sure it would look great but o one will do it. I commend you for putting magna grips on your gun. I can't tell you how often I hear or read about people complaining about how it hurts too much to have magnas on their Smiths. Drives me nuts. Those grips are as classic as the guns themselves. When they made them in the past they put that style grip on for a reason and so many people ditch them for oversized rubber grips and it looks terrible on the old guns. I own 3 old Smiths 2 J frames and 1 K frame and I'll never ever put anything else on but magnas. I even bought a Taurus 605, and immediately removed the rubber grips and put a set of magna grips on it and I love it. It looks so old school. I shoot 180 gr Buffalo Bore 357 Mag flat nose lead slugs out of it and it's fine. Not sure why so many people don't like them, but to each their own I guess. In short, I'm proud of you.

THIS IS MY 2 1/2", NO-DASH 686. BECAUSE I INTENDED TO CARRY IT, I SENT IT IN TO THE MOTHER SHIP, FOR THE RECALL. TRANSPORTATION BOTH WAYS, IS ON THEIR DIME. WHILE IT WAS THERE, I HAD THEM SWAP OUT MY CYLINDER, FOR A 7 SHOT.....
UPON ITS RETURN, I SHIPPED IT OFF TO THE SAND BURR GUN RANCH, WHERE DENNIS REICHARD DID A MASTERFUL ACTION JOB ON IT. IT IS NOW SLICKER THAN SNOTS.....
I SOLD THE COMBATS, AND THE 6 ROUND CYLINDER ON OUR FORUM TO OFFSET THE COST OF OF THE WORK THAT I HAD DONE. I REPLACED THE COMBATS WITH A SET OF MAGNA-PCs, THAT I PURCHASED VERY REASONABLY, ON OUR FORUM. THEY WERE IN ROUGH SHAPE, BUT THEY WERE REFINISHED FOR GRATIS, BY A GUY THAT I SOLDIERED WITH, IN VIETNAM. I TOPPED THEM OFF WITH A TYLER-T.....
THE GUN IS SURPRISINGLY ACCURATE FOR A SNUBBY, AND A JOY TO SHOOT AT THE RANGE. IT WILL BE A FORMIDABLE SD/HD WEAPON, IF NEED BE.......

Lovin these
For me, for home protection, truck and trail gun, a 3 inch 7 shooter 686 is a ultimate revolver. And thats coming from a guy that sold 2 3” k frames and a j frame. For me k and Ls are too big for everyday carry

That settles it. My next purchase is going to be a 7-shot 686 with a 3" barrel...which I might have machined to accept moon clips. I've been leaning in that direction for a while now...and all the eye candy above has pushed me over the edge. IMHO it's hard to beat a 3" L-Frame as best "all around" .357 revolver.

My Hillary hole 686+ and its big brother 629 and little brother 19. I have been burned twice with newer smith revolvers having accuracy and quality issues but this 2008 vintage 686 is a excellent gun !

Definitely go with a 3" if you can. The 2.5 barrels look awesome but the short ejector rod on them is very annoying when it comes to fast reloads and pulling some of the empty's out with your fingers.

Just received the 686 Deluxe back from Smith after having an action tune and a polish job performed. Turnaround time was not quite 4 months and I am very pleased with the results.
