Default 2nd time out shooting with the M638

Nice in the Las Vegas desert today (no wind, 70 degrees) so out there I went to get more familiar (practice) with the snubby. I'll have my cc permit in 60 days so I want to shoot it at least once a week until then...so I should be comfortable with it.

P.S.
As soon as a friend of mine learns how to fly his drone I'll be posting some overhead views of the desert, with us shooting.

Only my 2nd time out and was shooting mostly unsupported, right & left hand...in double action mode & hitting mainly at 5 & 10 yards, a torso size target. You need a very tight grip...the kick is sharp but manageable.
Really light & small with reasonable power.
It'll make a nice front pocket cc.
Love the gun.

Hope you're not shooting out there alone. Very unforgiving place, the desert. So are some of the types who frequent the desert, and I don't mean coyotes. Be wary of other shooters, especially groups. Always bring another gun in your vehicle, preferably a long arm. Loaded. When my FBI buddy and I are practicing handguns out there, we always have an AR or a slug-loaded pump gun. Or both, one for each. You may have to be your 9-1-1, esppecially with spotty cell phone coverage. Take care.

Hi Backlighting:

The Model 638 is one of my EDC - the other is my New York Reload - a Model 38-0. I don't know how you feel about laser grips, but all of my Airweight J-frames are equipped with Crimson Trace LG-405 laser grips:

Crimson Trace Laser Sight LG-405 Lasergrips Smith & Wesson Concealed J Frame - FAST FREE SHIPPING

These grips have an air chamber along the backstrap that helps soak up recoil. These are boot grip style, if you want the full size grip, you'll need to look at the LG-305 grips, but these don't have the air chamber.

Best of luck,

Dave

Dave,
The Crimson grips are definitely a possible future acquisition...just not now...they are somewhat pricey for me at this time.
I'm awaiting Pachmayr Diamond grips I've just ordered. They cost only $20.
If, after comparing the stock, small ones, with the new Pachmayr's in the areas of conceal-ability, seize, weight, feel and recoil reduction I'll make a decision which will reside on the frame.
Good luck to you.
