Best Values in High Quality Revolvers

Still available new.

Non-catalogued, contract overrun model 360J. Scandium Alloy frame, carbon or stainless cylinder? Nice little snub. Found mine for $369. Were selling for $350, but many still out there for sub $400.

Are we talking guns you will actually use, that will serve a purpose? Or is it more stockpiling because they'll be more expensive in the future?

Myself, I have never bought a gun for speculative reasons. Even though some of my guns do not get shot often enough, none are safe queens. I do like the fact that they appreciate in value. My bank accounts are sure not making anything! Bob

I buy mine to use so I always have that in mind when searching. I will leave the pristine versions with boxes and such for the more serious collectors. When I get something I want I start by watching the online auctions to see what they are actually selling for not the often ridiculous asking prices. I don't get in a hurry and always on the lookout whenever in a LGS. If you keep an eye open and watch what you want in user revolvers comes around eventually. Collectors seem to have a more difficult time but I think they really enjoy the search.

The 442/642, should be @ the top of the list. Under $400 new user under $300. I'm not seeing the deals on the six series Rugers you speak of.

A little over a year ago I picked up this VA trade-in model 64 for $275 plus shipping. Minor surface scratches, but no etching or engraving marks. Appear to be original stocks.

They had 2" model 64s also. Still kicking myself for not picking up one of those.

I was originally talking about types of good quality, mechanically sound guns that could be used for self defense, home defense, target practice or such, and that anyone can find locally or on line. I was not so much looking a single collector item, although those are certainly nice when one comes along.

A few weeks ago I picked up a model 60-7 LS for $379. It had a small scratch on the frame and that's the only reason I can see for it selling so cheap. It has very good accuracy.

I hate to say it here, but you've overlooked the Colt E framed Official Police and Army Specials. Python quality at less then a quarter (often) of the price. From the top, I paid $250, $275 and $500 (scarce round-butt OP) for these fine revolvers. You have to like .38 Special if you're going to own these... H.

Sure wish I had the pickins I see on this thread. Just don't see all that much in this rural area. Nice finds you guys mention

I don't live in a rural area, but the pickins are slim here, too. I do see a lot of "beater" type revolvers, that are in so-so condition with what I would call high prices. Very cosmetically challenged M-10s run near $500 here. If it's pristine, add a couple of hundred plus to that price. I see no revolvers in the $350 price range except Charter Arms, Rossi, and Taurus, and those are pretty much beaters, too. If it looks good, the price jumps in a hurry. I need to move to where all the other posters in the thread live, and maybe, I could score a nice revolver for a decent price.....

The Model 10s and Ruger Sixes I paid a bit too much for years ago have appreciated substantially. They were solid, well made guns when I got them, and still are.

I find its very easy to walk away from the new stuff nowadays.

In my area good used smith revolvers ( working guns with a bit of finish wear and good mechanicals ) are easy to find for 300 bucks or so. I mentioned to my local dealer I was in the market for a shooter grade 15 and he said stop by the shop and I will show you your options
He brought out 6 15's ( no telling what more he had in back plus another 5 more in the used rack) he said take your pick 300 out the door and I ended up with a 90% condition pre 15 with original serialized diamond magnas. Another shop has a near immaculate 10 no dash for $295 and is running a $25 off sale which would bring the price under 300 out the door as well. If I am willing to go to the 5/600 range the first shop mentioned has 8-10 70's era k frames mint in boxes as well.

If I see a non-J frame for under $400 I buy it. Last week I got a real nice 10-5 for $315. Amazes me that something so beautifully made can be had for less than a surplus Glock. Sometimes supply and demand can work in your favor.

I even picked up a nice 38/44 Heavy duty for $200 (ok that was in 25 years a go).

If you're looking for something cheap and very good Allan's Armory has Model 13's for $325-345.
