Default 460 and LiLGun

Yes I know ppl been having trouble with Cone Erosion. But having 3 pounds of LiLGun and nothing to use it in is kinda frustrating.
So i was wondering if I run 360 or 395 grain bullets at min charge weight would be OK? Also letting the gun cool between 5 shots. What you think? I don't need max performance.

I've read those stories about Lil'Gun too. I bought a pound a year ago & have been shooting it in the ultra-magnums; 454C, 460 & 500 Mags without issue, until recently when I was using up the last bit in the jug.

After shooting a small batch of 350gr Berry's in my 500, with reduced charges, I noticed the start of some F/C erosion when I was cleaning it afterwards. Pretty sure it wasn't there before. Everything else I've shot in it are common powders used in all my other guns, with no problems.

Not sure I understand why but since it was my last I don't plan on buying anymore. Since you have a bunch I'd say to try a small batch & keep an eye on things. With those heavy/long bullets it might be fine?

When used with light for caliber bullets Lil'Gun is offensive to forcing cones but I have not seen the same issue when used with heavy bullets in the 460 S&W and I use it for 325 and heavier bullets to good effect (along with 4227). It does heat the barrel faster than other powders but that is easily controlled.

I have not used any in the 500 S&W but would say any thing lighter than 500 grain bullet would be light for caliber.

If you shoot your 460 S&W as intended it is going to show forcing cone erosion regardless what powder you use, high pressure - high velocity has a price.

All that said my favorite has close to 10,000 round and shows fair amount of erosion but still shoot great and several other with over 6000 rounds still printing target well.

I will worry about the erosion when it affects the accuracy.

Victorlad PM me if you need load data- with bullet specifics.

Good luck and be safe
Ruggy

?

500 grain is "light for caliber"? That is right for 50BMG, but the handgun?

I said anything lighter than 500 not 500

and typically loads for 50 BMG are 700 grain I believe and it is .510 dia.,the 500S&W is .500 not to mention the other many differences.
