Default New 638s can use a break-in

Just recently bought a new 638 and it was almost impossible for me to thumb-cock it. Double-action was heavy and somewhat balky as well. But after some lubing and a fair amount of dry-firing (with snap-caps) the action has lightened and smoothed quite well. A nice little gun, seems accurate enough shooting DA offhand, but I still have my doubts about that rifling (or lack thereof).

Regards, Ralph Boineau in central South Carolina

The wife enjoys hers. It is fun to shoot and that +P barks just fine.

I had the same experience with my 649. The hammer was very hard to cock at first but now it's no problem.

Default Same Experience Here

I bought a new 638 late last year and had the exact same experience. It has worn in somewhat through lots of dry fire. It could still use a trigger job. I may do one.

Well, now you all have got me going, I'm late for work. Dug out my 649s: the hammer spur has 7 grooves. The 638's spur is shorter, with only 3 grooves. Harder to obtain a purchase on this shorter spur. On such things does the earth turn. Now I can sleep soundly tonight!
