Default 686 parts interchangeability

My brother found a stripped 686 no dash frame he plans on rebuilding at some point. Would -2 action parts work in the no dash frame or would he need to source no dash parts?

-2 parts will work. The changes from the no dash to the -2 were fairly minor. I've seen demilled M686 kits on Gun Broker for $65. Would have a lot of the needed parts.

The -2 has the floating hand. I would avoid the floating hand, if you can. I replace all them I find in my guns.

As a S&W certified armorer, I am also not fond of the floating hand which are found out through -3 in a lot of K,L, and N frame guns. However, if the timing (carry up) is perfect with the floating hand, there is no reason to get carried away replacing it, except as a personal preference. I have several that are working well in guns that I own and I just leave them alone if they are not giving problems. Probably they never will.
