Default When was the last run of .44 or .45 Mountain Guns?

It was such a good concept. I'd like to see some new ones...maybe even a 627 MG 8x.

The 617 Mountain Gun doesn't really count for me. They should have called that a 618, and made it standard catalog.

Any rumor of new MG's

Total agreement. My "fall-back" from a stainless steel 45 Colt Mountain Gun might be a better choice for me - that is, a potent, easily carried handgun for wandering in Lolo National Forest. I bought a Freedom Arms Model 97 4.25-inch barrel. It is slightly smaller and lighter than a Colt SAA, quite a bit smaller than the Mountain Gun I want, and can use handloads significantly stiffer than the Mountain Gun.

But it is not a stainless steel 45 Colt Mountain Gun.

Bonkers, anybody who owns, carries and shoots a 4 inch Model 500, like I do, KNOWS why they want a Mountain Gun!

While the modern S&W revolvers in .45 Colt probably shouldn't be loaded up to Ruger Blackhawk-only levels, they will handle just fine a handload with a 250-270 grain cast bullet at 1,000 feet per second. With the exception of western Canada's and Alaska's big bears, the .45 Colt so loaded will usually go clean through the rest of the big game animals of North America.

I really love the Mountain Guns, especially the stainless ones. I have one in .44 Magnum, one in .45 ACP, one in .45 Colt and one in .357 Magnum, a 7 shot, and they are both lighter and handier than their equivalents with heavier and longer barrels and are not burdensome with a good pants belt and holster

The story normally told about Goldilocks and The Three Bears is tied into this but is normally told inaccurately. The true story goes like this: When Goldilocks found the bears' cabin deep in the woods, she went inside and found loaded S&W handguns in the gun cabinet. She first picked up a Model 329 .44 Magnum and said, "This one is too light." Next she picked up a 4 inch Model 500 and said, "This is too heavy." She picked up the .45 Colt Mountain Gun and said, "This one is JUST right." She cuddled up in one of the bears' beds with her new choice of sidearm and fell fast asleep.

An hour later, the bears came home and found Goldilocks had rifled their gun cabinet, had tracked mud all through the cabin and was now asleep in their bed. While they pondered what to do, Goldilocks woke up, saw the bears and shot Mama Bear and Papa Bear to death and locked Baby Bear in the bathroom. She then gutted and skinned the two big bears, cutting and wrapping their backstraps and livers, and slicing out as much bear fat as she could, which she would later render it into a shortening very popular with French pastry chefs. She pulled out the bears' teeth and claws and made necklaces with them. She found their pituitary glands and cut them out and bottled them to sell to the Chinese herbal healer down in the city. She rolled up the hides so she could dry and stretch them later and sell to the tourists along with the necklaces.

Goldilocks then loaded her bear goodies into a small wooden cart with a tongue and harnesses such as would be pulled by a small donkey. The cart looked like the one in "A Dog Of Flanders," a movie from her childhood.

Goldilocks then took the Baby Bear out of the bathroom at gunpoint and made him strap himself into the harness and pull them into town. Goldilocks quickly sold her bear products and sold Baby Bear to a travelling circus whose accordion player's last bear had died.

Goldilocks then bought a bus ticket to the big city and left the little town. As a gay woman, she had not found love in the little town and thought she would do better in the city.

She did and lived happily ever after.

Model 69, 44 in a 37 oz. package would fill that niche, no?

Buff, that was funny as hell. Damn... made my night.
And Shocker is correct. I have a new 69 that is really sweet. Nice alternative to the 29s and 629s.

The last I recall seeing were some M625-9's in .45 Colt, product code 160932, s/n prefix CJK, from October 2005. So, it's been a while.

Thanks. Someday I'll post my version of Hansel and Gretel. It kept my nieces and nephews up all night.

I for one never liked the skinny barrel on the Mountain Gun line. Give me beefy barrels for all my magnums needs. Now Buff... that was just creepy dude.

I would, but it might be offensive to any Muslim members.

(I'm prepared for the whack.)

I much prefer the "mountain gun" barrels to the full lug barrels. But. I also, prefer the 45 colt with warmish loads to a 44 mag. I have improved 2 44 mags to 45 colts.

I've got a 625-9 I had TK Custom mill to accept 45ACP moon clips. What a hoot to shoot. And it's accurate.

The only thing I don't like about it is the forward screw for the rear sight is short enough that it reflects exhaust gasses onto the cylinder and there are 6 little black dots on it. I need to get a longer screw to make that problem go away.

The spent cartridge envelope is dated 10-4-2005 like Kernel Crittenden commented. The SN is CJK 61XX.
