My LGS has this Model 610-3 with a 4" barrel right now. It has an un-fluted cylinder and looks to be in good shape. I am familiar with and currently load 10mm and .40S&W. How do these 610's shoot? How do they handle the 10mm and the .40S&W? Any input would be appreciated. I am undecided at this point on if I want to purchase this gun. Thank you in advance.

I have a 5 inch and would not even attempt to talk you out of it. I really like mine, I find it very accurate and handles 10mm very well. You will need moon clips and all that go with them, but they load into the cylinder very well. I think you will like it a lot.

On the contrary! I would also urge you to purchase that gun. IMHO, the 10mm cartridge is a much better revolver cartridge than it is an auto loader cartridge. Use the required full moon clips and a get a de-loading tool that will sure save the fingers. My M 610 is probably the most accurate N frame that I own. It can be handloaded right up there in the 41 Mag class if required. Because of the minimum reload time and effort required when using the clipped ammo, if I were to go back to Alaska fly fishing in griz country like I once did, I would be carrying my M 610 instead of my M 629.

Put that puppy in a quality shoulder holster and learn to carry it during the winter as your EDC. ..............

IF that gun shop is asking less than 1500 dollars that is a STEAL. Fact is you could probably flip it for 2000 dollars or more. I have a 6 1/2 inch 610-3 and still regret not having the wisdom to purchase a 4 inch version at the same time because I only had to pay for my 6 1/2 incher brand new.

As for shooting properties, the only thing I've used in mine is 40 S&W and even with the "bullet jump" due to the shorter case I have still managed to produce 2 1/8 inch groups off a rest at 35 yards. BTW the long range indoor range I shoot at has the targets well lit at 35 yards but 25 yards is rather dimly lit and 50 yards is decent if you bring the target forward about 2 yards. As a result when I'm testing a handgun for precision I use 35 yards even if it's a bit of an oddball distance.

The 610-3 is a post lock, not even sarah15 would get $2000 for a post lock 610. This is not a knock on the lock, just a fact of the market.

I just bought one with the lock about a month ago and paid 1200 and was happy

I agree with bsan with it being a dash3. Sarah15 gets top $ with top guns & presentation but would not get the prelock price. When there is a choice with a certain model I always get the no lock version. If the gun is somewhere $1000 or a little above sounds like a good deal it's up to you. The front of the barrel looks worn or something unless that just the pic.

Sold one just like that on GB a few months back for over $1500. Many bidders.

The price is higher than I would pay. But, they are sweet. I am unable to talk anyone out of a 610. If you reload 10MM Auto, there is no reason that a 610 shouldn't be on your list. Unless, you already own one.

If I remember correctly I saw Blown car's 610-3 on GB. It sold & then it was back on GB because the 1st buyer somehow didn't know it had the lock & returned it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

A 3 7/8" 610-3 (w. lock) sold for $2000, via "Buy It Now" on GB. I was stunned at the time, but no more.

csdmann, 610s are hot and don't come up for sale often. And don't forget about November...you may never get another chance to buy a 610...lock, or no lock.

Csd, you have to be careful with everyone quoting Gunbroker prices. Because some impatient fool paid $2K for a post lock 610, doesn't mean any 610 on the shelf at your LGS is a steal for anything less. GB is a gauge but not gospel.

If you want me to talk you out of it, I wouldn't personally buy a collectible gun with the lock, since that limits the desirability to many collectors that you will resell to, at some later date..

As always you guys are a wealth of information. I appreciate all of the responses. I am going to go do the paperwork today and purchase it. :) The price is below $1,000 and like you guys have said these don't come up too often. It will be fun to shoot something different at the range. I have already ordered the moon clips and arbor. I have the moon clip tool already. I thank you again and after the CA wait I will take some pictures of it and of it performing at the range and post them.

Congratulations that is definitely a good deal. Looking forward to seeing your range report & comments.

Glad you bought it Mr. C. I picked the exact same gun earlier in the year, nearly new. The price was right like yours, and i didn't care that it had a lock. They are hard to get. The 4" full lug guns are the sweet spot for me, so I'm a sucker in that configuration as well. Considering your a reloader for this cartridge already Is another added bonus.

Me thinks your going to really enjoy shooting it. Front sight are super easy to play with as well.

I'm glad you bought it and you will be too. I picked up a 610-3 6.5" a couple of years ago and it is my best shooting revolver. I would like to get one with the 3-7\8" barrel too. Good find and under $1000 is a good price. I paid $925 for mine and I was happy to pay that.
