S & W Model #65-3
I just picked up a S & W model 65-3(.357 Mag.) in polished SST with an original leather holster. I am the 2nd owner. The original owner was a police Detective. He purchased the gun and the holster new in 1985. The gun is in very good original condition- including the wood grips. What do you think the revolver is worth? Thanks.

What's the barrel length? Describe the grips. Wood, plastic, rubber? Is there a factory box? Provenance letter from the Detective? What state are you in?
In general it's a $400 to $550 gun, most places. Everything above can effect price.

The revolver has a 3" barrel. Wooden grips which are in excellent condition. It came with a "A.E.Nelson model#82-Police Duty leather holster. One box of 357Mag(50), one box of .38 special(50), hard plastic case.

As an explanation, the value difference between a 3 and 4" model 65 of that era is $150-200. Enjoy!

Now, knowing it's the more desirable 3-inch and has it's original grips, $550 to $700 is a good range 90% would likely trade hands. Ammo and holster maybe +40, stuff like that often gets "thrown in". You'd come out ahead selling it separately. I assume the "hard plastic case" is non factory, so no significant value add there. Still don't know your State, so no regional add/deduct.

Arizona, AFAIK, is a gun friendly state. So, no adder. Prices, I've found, tend to run a little lower in the South West, though I'm sure anyone that lives there thinks revolver prices are sky high. It's hard to be an unbiased observer when you live inside the experiment.
