Fair price for model 31-1??
I found a model 31-1, 3", with a 1981 DOB. It is likely a 95% revolver. I have several Smith revolvers but nothing in 32 S&W long, so this one is of interest. Asking price was $425 and we are at $375. I may get it down a bit more, but is $375 plus tax a fair price for, what I have described? Thanks

"... likely a 95% revolver." causes me to pause, but if it truly is, then from my perch I see a good deal. If the seller has box, papers, tools, then it's a great deal.
My two bits,
Bob

Thank you, no box or papers. I say likely 95% because I am not an expert....just purchased a number of Smiths. There is no holster wear on the barrel; the cylinder does have the usual turn marks. No rust or discoloration. It will not be a PD gun, just a shooter. Again, thanks for the input.

$350 to 400 would be reasonable for a nice one. However, the .32 S&W Long isn't real popular and prices vary all over the place. Depends a lot on how bad the seller wants to get rid of it. Try to take advantage of that and bargain hard.
The .32 Long is kind of a niche cartridge. Most people ignore it, while others just love it. I fall in the later group. I have a 2" Model 30 and 3" and 4" Model 31s. IIRC, the least I paid was $250 and the most was $400. Again it depends a lot on how popular the .32 is in your area and how motivated the seller is.
The .32 Long is a fun cartridge. Wonderfully accurate with very little recoil. I'm sure you'll love it.

Thank you. I suspect I will enjoy shooting it and I can reload for about the same price as a 22LR. I hear your pint on the 32Long. I have passed on many before but this one has my attention. I guess it is because it is a 3".
Again, thanks for your thoughts. If I purchase, I will post a picture.

It is an excellent price, and a very desirable gun. Many of them have been reamed to take the 32 H&R Magnum, and make an outstanding carry gun. The 32 Long can be hand-loaded to a much higher level of performance than is available in factory ammo.

Thanks for this feedback. I figured the 32L could be loaded to a more modern level. Also, good to know there is the option to ream to the 32HRM. If done, would it still be able to fire 32Ls? Similar to 357M and 38 Sp. relationship?
Thanks for the response.

Thanks for the replies. I just "pulled the trigger" and made the commitment to purchase for $375 OTD. That's about $350 + tax in NC. I will pick up in a few days and post a picture.

That price seems the right ballpark in my area of the world; although as pointed out above .32 S&W Long revolvers can vary depending on seller motivation.
That said I had one similar to what you describe; an absolutely phenomenal little shooter. I traded it against a Beretta in a momentary lapse of judgement and have been on the hunt for another one to replace it ever since. If it were me I'd bargain hard but go in planning to bring it home.
Edit*: Didn't see you'd made the purchase, congrats on a great new addition!
