Default RSR 629-4 authenticity

Just picked up an RSR 629-4 6" which supposedly was a performance center limited run of 500 very similar, if not identical, to the Lew Hortons. Slabsided, magnaported barrel. Couldn't resist after looking at the pics. Looks to be in immaculate shape but didn't come with the original box or paperwork.

Anyone ever contact S&W about providing a letter of authenticity or certificate for specialty production runs like this? Not that I plan on reselling it, but good to have for validating when it was made and that it was a limited run.

Yes, this is a very common reason to get a history letter.

Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation - Letter Process - Insuring that the rich history of Smith & Wesson will continue for generations to come

Lew Horton (another distributor who sold many special runs) is happy to talk or send you a letter about them so you may also want to contact RSR directly, if they are still in business.

You do know that you can't post a thread like that and not include pics don't you?

If you're wondering if it's a Performance Center gun, look for their logo on the left side. They're proud of their work, and it is very uncommon for them to not put their logo on a gun they make.

Post the s/n. We can tell a lot just from that. Limited run guns often have unique s/n prefixes, or were issued in a known range of normal s/n's.

If you have the box, post the Product Code and Spec. Ord. number. Those will be six, and four, digit numbers on the label, respectively. Again, some of us study those numbers and can tell you a lot about your gun by knowing them.

A picture of both sides of the gun, and the end label would be best.
