I recently broke the bank and went for a 629 Competitor. It's fun to shoot, but the butt does kick back into the web of the hand with some force. I don't want to risk nerve damage over time. I could use a glove. But I'm also considering replacing the standard grips with S&W 500 Impact Absorbing Grips. In reply to my email, S&W indicates that those grips will fit the 629 Competitor. However, when I look online, the model 629 is not among the list of models compatible with those grips. I was wondering if anyone out there has tried them. Also, has anyone had experience to say whether the S&W 500 grips make a noticeable difference vis-a-vis the standard Hogue grips? Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have a set of those grips on a 629 Mountain Gun and they work great. It does make a very noticeable difference. I have fired 300 grain 44 Magnum loads out of the Mountain Gun. Lots of muzzle flash, but not painful at all with those grips.

Where is the best source for these grips? Do they make a round butt to square butt conversion?

The S&W store - but I understand that Bud's has them too. These are round to sqaure conversion grips. One size fits all round butt frames (except J, of course).

Have 2 of these

I tried the Hogue and the Pachymer, but these worked out better than both of them, installed on a 329PD and a Model 69 Combat 44 . The factory wood grips on the 329 should be illegal

Just bought one from Grab A Gun for a 69.
Great price and fast shipping.
Well worth upgrading.

Does anyone have a picture of what they look like on a 29/629/69? Are they easy to install? Thanks!

Here they are on an N-frame RB (a 625-8PC in this case)

And here they are on an L-frame RB (a 646 here)

Easy to install - just like any Hogue grip. Stirrup goes over the stock grip locator pin at the base of the grip frame, and the grip slides up the frame and the screw in the bottom of the grip screws into the stirrup.

The grip is only available in black now. You can get them from the S&W store. Bud's did have them at a discounted rate, but I'm not sure that they still have them.
