Orange Grip
I've seen the 500 Magnum with the orange grip, and I really like that look.
Can I buy the orange grip anywhere?
Is it the same as the stock black "hogue" grip, just orange?
Thanks
Steve

These came on the Bear Survival Kit 2 3/4" 500. They have a covered backstrap, unlike most Hogue one-piece rubber grips for larger guns like the Monogrip. They are/were available only in black via S & W and are not listed on the Hogue website.

Yep, same construction/shape, just the color is different.
I took my orange ones off & stored them since they only make the black now.
Had to wait for S&W to get the black ones in-stock when I ordered them.

Man.........that 2" barrel must kick like a mule.
You would think they would have some orange ones for sale for replacement on this model.
I'll try and find an email address for S&W and send them an email to see.

The colored grips (yellow, olive drab, and orange) have not been offered for the last 2 years.
The Black grips (Model 500 Impact Absorbing Grips) are available only through Smith and Wesson as stated above.
Here is a link Product: Model 500 Impact Absorbing Hogue Square Butt Conversion Grips
You can occasionally find them on ebay or Gunbroker
Good luck and be safe

S&W has the black ones in the S&W Store. Other than the secondary market, this used to be the only place to purchase. Recently, I've heard that Bud's has them also, at a discounted price. Seems to me there was one other place also, but the name escapes me. Not sure how these other outlets gained access to them as I thought S&W licensing agreement with Hogue was pretty solid. These grips fit any round-butt frame (with the exception of the J of course).
S&W made two survival kits - the Bear, as shown above in orange with the .500 Mag and another (don't remember what it was called) in .460 Mag with a yellow box and grips.
The colored grips were available from the store for a while, but they didn't resupply after the initial stock ran out. Two of my three yellow grips came from the S&W store - the third from a private party.
I've only seen the Olive Drab grips in a promotional SHOT show film. Last set of colored ones that I saw on eBay were going for >$150 and the bidding was still open. Someone on the forum needed a set to complete their emergency kit and ended up paying $200 (that was a special case and may well have increased the value of the kit by that much).
I think I like the yellow better than the orange, but maybe I'm biased...
Top to Bottom: 625-8PC / 646 / 586-4 Brazil
These are guns that I compete with (IDPA).
Adios,
Pizza Bob

There was actually (3) Emergency Survival kits: 500ES, 460ES & 629ES.
Emergency Survival Kits - 2007.pdf
.
Only the PC460 CARRY came with the Olive Drab grips, AFAIK. I replaced them with black ones too.

That's why they came equipped with a lanyard ring... so you can reel it back it.
(My 7-1/2" 657-5 (54oz) weighs more than the 500ES (52oz) does. )

Not to be critical but that is not correct.
The first gun to carry the olive drab was the Lew Horton Carry Comp (SKU 170268) in 2006.
Then 460V that came in the "Carry Kit" (SKU 150237) in 2007.
Finally the 460 Carry (SKU 170350) in 2014.
I have seen a number of the 6.5"(SKU 170263) with Olive Drab grips (also a Lew Horton) fitted with this color but advertising material say they were black.
Good luck and be safe

I bought an orange Hogue X-grip direct from Smith & Wesson. I called their main number and talked with someone in the parts department.

Did you do this recently?
Did you just ask for the orange grip and they had them?
Thanks

No, yellow. Look at it in comparison to the slab-sided barrelled gun above it, or the three in my post, and then scroll to the top and see what the orange grip looks like. Much darker and more red in the mix.

So you're saying you have one you want to sell me?
What is the value of the 500SE package today? If you could find one for sale, what would the going rate be?

I have a set of almost un-used orange ones that were pulled from a revolver a while back.
For that kind of money I would have problems freeing up space in the grip box.

That's why if someone needed the colored grips to complete a kit, they'd be willing to spend $200 on a $40 grip.
