I own 625 5" ACP that happens to be one of my favorite everyday handguns. Especially liked with the smaller "K" round butt grip. Says Model of 1989 0n the barrel. My how time flies. Bought both guns new from the same shop. The 624 is the only one I have ever seen not accompanied by an adult. Seems the cool stuff never comes to my town and now that my smith moved to Montana I have to hit the road to go shopping.

I do enjoy the .44 Special. Get 'em Skeeter Skelton, my Action Hero!!!!!

Looks like I'll have to see what the S&W Custom Shop has to say.

Never saw one, but that doesn't mean there are not any. The 24 series throws a .44 Special load, so it is not on a K frame. Think most all are N frames, but one never knows. Most common are 6 1/2" and 3". I think the 4" is available and possibly less common. 624 is the stainless version of the 24. The 24 is a fine gun, so the 624 is most likely the same. Never had a 624.

As far as I know not in 5 inch. But 624s in 3,4, & 6 inches I know Smith made those.

Like already posted, the Model 624 was made in 3, 4 and 6 inch lengths. A 5 incher would have been divine. I bought a second 6 inch one with intentions of sending it to Hamilton Bowen for a 5 inch job but waited too long; Bowen no longer works on S&W's.

I hope to find a gunsmith who can do the chop and remount the front sight base and blade to look like S&W did it, not like I did it down in the garage. I have a 5 inch 1950 Target (pre-Model 24) and one just like it in stainless would be great.

To follow up a bit. Do we like the five inch because it is truly that great or because it is just not available? In my case, experience tells me they are that great. Friend of mine who moved here from Colorado loaned me a pistol he had made up years ago between marriages when guns were far more important than money.

M24's being unavailable he picked up a good tight M28. He was apprenticing as a stock maker to a rather large gun outfit so gave the pistol to them and had them locate a M24 cylinder and barrel and any other parts needed to convert it to a .44 Special. They then cut the barrel to 5", put the Boughman front sight back on it, and applied a dull chrome industrial finish of some kind that looks rather good and seems tough as the devil. Tuned it up a bit and Carl is one happy camper. He said it made one hell of a jack rabbit plinker. I know I sure like it. But though he does not use it anymore I can not get him to part with it. The only disturbing thing about the whole job is the S&W name is no longer centered on the barrel. But I could learn to live with that!
