Picked up this Model 64-4 DAO 2" this afternoon. It is identical to the 64-4 DAO 2" NY-1 that I posted last week, except for the NY-1 designation.
Wondering if it is one of the Brinks guns. The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson says that 150 guns like this (64-4 2" DAO) were made for Brinks Security. S&W also made just under 500 of the same configuration for NYPD as the NY-1.
Were the only two inch 64-4 DAO guns made for NYPD or Brinks? If that's not the case, it seems strange that the Standard Catalog would even mention the limited number for Brinks. Anyone know for sure?
It was quite dirty when I picked it up from the FFL. Sticky old lube coated the internals. The oversized Pachmayr grips concealed enough congealed lube, lint, and DNA to fill a cup. Had to do a deep clean with Goo Gone, CLP, etc. Function is flawless. Super tight lockup.
All clean and ready for new grips.
Here it is (Left)with the 64-4 NY-1
