Default 2.5 inch Model 10

I understand that S&W has had some special runs of 2.5" Model 10s. Has anyone ever seen one or know anything about them ?

They exist, but are rarely seen. A few members here who are former FBI who were issued them have posted pics.

I think they were mostly if not entirely law enforcement special orders.

EDIT:

Some pics and discussion in these threads...

2.5 inch fixed sight K frames?

What years did the FBI issue the Model 13?

According to SCSW 3rd Edition, 500 were sold to FBI and 280 to Michigan State Police. The FBI tried that model before settling on the 3 inch Model 13, which concealed just as well, and which also allowed use of their 145 grain Magnum ammo in addition to their 38 Special "FBI Load."

They were round butt, heavy barrel models, with full length ejector rods, and they were marked either 10-6 or 10-8. According to SCSW 3rd Edition, 101 were "made available" to the public from Michigan State Police surplus.

Picture 5 in this album shows the 2 1/2 inch Model 10.

I have one. It came from the Michigan State Police. Nice gun. Bought it from a forum member. It is the same one that is in the first listed post entry #9.

I consider those as 'Unicorn Status', like a 3" M19.

I own a pair of the 2.5" m10s, and recently wrote an account of them for a friend.
They're unusual, and good guns.
