Model 63-5 Input

Hey everyone. Sorry in advance if this is a dead horse that's been beaten to a second death... My LGS has a model 63-5 3" barrel used (unfired) for $475. Not really in the market for a .22 (I was there looking for a .357 when I came across it) but I must say, I handled it and it was love at first sight. Just doing some quick research on it it has a pretty good following, and many positive reviews. I placed it on hold to think about it.

I'm seriously considering trading the Ruger SR22 pistol I picked up back in January to replace with the 63-5.

Then in a couple months picking up the 2" model 60 as it's big brother. Then I'll have a cheap, fun plinker/trainer, plus it's big sibling for EDC (rotate between that and my LCP).

What'yall think? $475 for an unfired 63-5 seems good to me.

I have one. Not my favorite .22 shooter but still fun and never have a problem until cylinders get dirty. Usually takes at least 50-75 rounds before it will be stubborn on dumping empties. Just take a bore brush along if you intend to shoot into the 100's of rounds and you will be fine. I have trouble shooting mine as it is a j-frame and the 3-inch barrel makes for challenging shooting at longer distances. My wife really enjoys shooting it and it fits her hand well. She shoots it single action so it's easy for her. As to price, GB on NIB 63-5's are quite a bit higher than the price you found. You don't say anything about a box, but for the difference, I'd go for it. I have no qualms about enabling your money!

I can't say I'm any kind of expert on the 63s... but an unfired 63 with a 3" barrel sounds like a bargain at that price.

I'd buy it, and have a lot of casual fun with it.

Hello, I'd buy it at that price, a 3" 63 sounds cool. I have a 63-1 with a 4" and thought at 700 it was a good deal last year. They don't make them anymore!

$475 for an unfired 63-5 is a great price. I have a 63-5, one or my most accurate .22's. Very well balanced plinker, and great for training a first time handgun shooter.

Well I ended up taking it home today. I'm in love with this thing. It's been a few years since I last owned a Smith and Wesson wheelgun (I owned a pre lock 686 4" that I parted ways with years ago... Still kicking myself for that.) Lately I've been of the Ruger flavor and have had a couple Sp101's. As much as I love my Rugers, I must say the fit and finish on this model 63 is top notch. $475 out the door, used, unfired, with box/papers. I feel like I scored a good deal. Can't wait until this weekend to get her to the range and see what she's made of!

Now I see a 2" model 60 in my future!

$475 is a steal! I searched 6mo to a year online and locally and never found one even used for anything less than $500.

You did better then me I bought a used 3" 63-5 for $500 about 2 years ago. Then a month later came upon a 5" 63-4 for $300 and it is a shooter. I've shot numerous squirrels, skunks, possums, and any other varmints that come sniffing around the shack at deer season. My youngest has claimed the 3 inch as hers and my oldest latched onto my like new 5" 63, yes I have two. One almost NIB the other has been used but I would get rid of the newer one before my shooter grade.
