Fondled this hog leg today and fell in love. The owner has shot it about 100 times and kept the original box and papers. Serial is BHB prefix.

The product code is 103820 and according to the Book its a classic hunter from 1991. It was a limited Lew Horton run of approx 2000. The revolver was clean, and expensive. I don't shoot 41 magnum either. (Not yet that is)

Would you bite at $1650? Seemed steep to me. Gunbroker says expensive though if it is a 103820.

Thoughts?

S&W 657

I believe the price is too high.

While at the Fall Gun Show in Cheyenne Wyoming,
came across a Lew Horton S&W 657 41Mag with the
8" barrel, Blue plastic box, LH patch, Scope Base,
brown paper wrap, and paperwork.

It was in excellent condition, no barrel cant, Yoke mated
frame excellent, trigger broke like glass. Screws in most
excellent condition. Box was in excellent condition also.

Price was $900. So yes I believe if you keep looking you
will find one that is not so cost prohibitive.

Unfortunately I passed. For several reasons; I don't reload
for 41Mag yet, didn't care for the +8" bbl, and bought
a S&W 625 45LC MG and 629 44Mag MG with in the last year.

I paid $900 for this nearly new (but no box) 657-3 classic hunter about three years ago.

That was in California where prices are somewhat higher than the other 49 states.

The price you stated was high. At $500 or $600 lower, I'd start being interested.

2000 examples of product code 103820 were produced over many years beginning in 1991.

During that timeframe Smith and Wesson discontinued the square butt, so 108320 can be found as either a square butt or a round butt wearing Hogue round to square conversion grips. It is not known how many of each were produced. Based on serial number, the one that you held earlier today would have been a square butt

I picked up one of each frame back in the day, but changed out the Hogue rubber for Hogue wood grips

As to price, I guess it boils down to if you plan to shoot it or keep it as a safe queen. As a shooter that price is simply too high. Even as a safe queen it is more than I would pay for a USED example of the revolver.

Not counting mine, ko41s or Cal44s, there are still 1995 other examples of 103820 in the market place :) You could look for a less expensive one
