It is the only fixed sight, 3" square butt model 60 of the era and is from about 1985. Enjoy!

AEV is a known prefix for John Jovino 3-inch M60's. It dates to around...
September 1984.
Value maybe in the $450 to $600 range, depending on details. Others might have more current info.
They have an interesting history, but at the end of the day they're still just plain Jane 3-inch M60's.

Has anyone noticed any of the Jovino's either the two or three inch SELL recently on any of the sites? I haven't been on Gunbroker much at all lately.

I have one, great little .38.
The others here are spot on with the info. Info I have found is if its an original square butt pinned 3" Model 60 its from the first run of less than 200. If its a later non pinned gun its one of the Jovino special orders. I have not been able to find the exact number of Jovino 3" guns. All the available info states that there were 1,000 guns that were combined 2" and 3".
More info here: John Jovino 60 all in one post
I would not sell mine for less than $650 if it were for sale, and I have had offers for more than that. However revolvers seem to be popular here in the west. Other locations may bring less.
They seem to surface here in the classifieds area of the forum every few years. Mine was grabbed off of Gunbroker.

There was one at a pawn shop near me about a year back. I think they were asking around $650, but don't know how much it really sold for. Took about a week for it to sell IIRC.

I LUCKILY was able to snag a pair of each, unfired, in original boxes, several years back. Unfortunately one had a yellow frt sight insert installed. Thankfully not a bad job, looks OK. That one I do carry.
The 3" guns are simply wonderful little .38's. Far easier to shoot than a 2" gun. At least for me anyway.
I have to say, regarding the statement; "They have an interesting history, but at the end of the day they're still just plain Jane 3-inch M60's" The same thing can be said about a LOT of sought after collector guns. A 3" Model 66 ONLY has another 1/2" of barrel versus a 2 1/2" gun. Whats the big deal with the short run of early, non underlug 617's. Same as a regular K-22 other than they are stainless. The statement diminishes the guns a bit. They deserve equal respect.

If it's not a plain Jane 3-inch M60 (with an interesting history) , then what is it?
I came off the same assembly line as any other standad production Smith. It's action didn't recieve any special attention. It's not handbuilt from the Performance Center. It's not inscribed with any special markings. The grips are the same as any other J-frame.
I don't see how the term "plain Jane" could be considered disrespectful. I see it as a dispassionate statement of fact.

I need to respectfully disagree with KC on this one. Scarce or rare configurations always pique the interest of collectors, whether it is barrel length, grip frame shape, sights or other details. There are other square butt, other 3" and other fixed sight 60s, but with only about 1,200 with all three features I think they fall into the "special" category and selling prices reflect this.

I'm just not amazed when a 3-inch gun has a 3 inch barrel and a square butt gun has a square butt frame. I understand the configuration was unusual in its time.

Still unusual, but very desirable as a using gun and of interest to collectors.
I had one of those guns and hated having to sell it.
If the OP has a valid need for a small .38, he will regret selling that gun, although the Pach. Gripper grips are too large for a concealment gun. Presentation Compacs are a better deal.
I had smooth rosewood Magnas and a Tyler adaptor on mine, and I loved that gun. It was replaced with a M-60-4, but I'd still like a basic three-inch M-60, if I had the money when I saw one.
