I'll be honest, the price is what tipped the scales. That, and seeing some with those stainless plugs. Are those still available? I'm going to wait a month or two as suggested before doing anything but shooting and cleaning it though.

The "Plug" does nothing for me personally. If I ever manage to swallow hard enough and take the plunge into a brand new 17 or 617, I'll be leaving the gun "as-purchased"... and I'd suggest you consider doing the same. The way my old brain works, fighting the problem would be even more problematic than just giving up and accepting it.
