Registration number
I am filling out the information request form required by the Smith and Wesson foundation. One of the pieces of information it asks for is the registration number. Can anyone tell me where to find this? I registered my revolver ( 686 3 inch 7 shot) with Smith and Wesson on their website but they didn't give me a registration number at its completion.
Thanks, in advance for any info you can provide.

That is probably for a "Registered Magnum". Pre model 27.

Tim is correct. That entry is for a Pre-War Registered Magnum far older than the one that you are requesting history for.

Thanks for the quick response. While I'm on here can anyone tell me is there a web searchable database of S&W serial numbers. I would like to get an idea of when mine was shipped from the factory.

There is no website with searchable serial numbers for s&w. You have to purchase a book of which many people on this site have. Some pictures along with the first few letters and/or digits of serial#. These very kind members who own the books will usually respond with your wanted info.

There actually is one on the internet but I don't think the powers here would like me putting up the link. I used it until I bought a used 3rd edition of the SCS&W.
Do a google on "smith and wesson serial numbers".

Welcome to the Forum. The 4th edition of Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson is available and is updated from the 3rd edition. The only way to get a ship date is to letter the gun or join the SWCA and request a ship date from Roy Jinks.
