I bought new scope, rings, & base for my 29-5 back in '97- I need some help with my memory.

The base (#2843C) looks like a Leupold dual-dove tail style but the rings have S&W logo engraved on top.

The base attaches to top strap with 3 screws after removal of rear sight. S&W logo on rings appear to be laser etched same as the 29.

Since I do not recall who made them, I would like to know if anyone could verify that this a S&W scope mount system?
Or are they Leupold scope rings and base made specifically for S&W??

I seem to recall they were S&W parts- but its been so long now I cant be certain.

Maybe someone with same set or a '97 parts catalog could verify that?

Looks identical to my Leupold setup to me - the S&W symbol?

I have a flier of "Smith & Wesson Firearm Accessories" from 2003 that shows your scope mount with product code #191270(M629 Classics & Classic DX) or 191260(M29 (Classics & Classic DX)

They must be S&W part #191260 if they are blued with the S&W logo on top- thanks for the info.

Maybe S&W had leupold manufacture the rings and then added the logos themselves?

I remember when I bought them they were supposed to be the best mounts available at the time.

Anyone know how much a set of these rings w/base are going for nowadays?

I have a set of these rings too on my 629 that are stainless. Never have saw another set until this thread. I bought them in 1997 or 1998 at a local gun shop. I'd also be interested to hear what the approximate value is. They came in a plastic container with blue foam in them from S&W.

Great, now I'm not the only one looking for these! LOL

I can't say who made the S&W logo'd ones, however they are virtually identical to the old Tasco "world class mount", with a tapered set screw that attaches to the post on the base. Only difference I've found is the S&W logo on the top half of the ring.

Over the years I've managed to find a 1" set in blue, and a 30mm set in the silver satin with the S&W logo. I also have a 1" set in silver that I got with a 629-4 classic back in the day.

They are a decent mount/ring IMO, I just last year shot loose the one that had been on that -4 since new. They do take some patience to set up properly though as you need to center each ring with set screws from both sides. There are definitely much easier and better systems available.
But these have the cool factor of being period correct with the right firearm.

I don't remember which is which, but some of the earlier or later S&W revolvers had a shorter cut out for the front portion of the rear sight, so some fabrication to the base may be required to get it to fit the firearm.

You have made me curious. Around 2000 I bought a #50081 set of Leupold base & Rings, and a S&W 1.5 - 6 X 28 MM #SWP15628 Target / hunting Scope. I just dug them out of my "Stuff", all still "Brand New", in their boxes. They look to be the same mounts that you show, but have no S&W logos. I intended to mount the S&W scope on one of my N frame S&W revolvers. Since it would have required drilling & tapping them, I couldn't bear to do that, and they lay unused, and never will be, as my shooting days are now "long gone".

Late here, but I posted to help folks with future searches on the subject. Through my research I've found the rings and base were made for Smith by Tasco. Although I am not a huge fan of Tasco, they are well made and nice looking.
