Would Be My Ideal S&W: Ever Made?
Below is a picture of a S&W 632. It is a .327 Federal Mag 6 Shot J frame with a 3" barrel, adjustable sights, with a BLACK/BLUE finish.
As good as .327 may be, I have no use for a .327mag, nor am I looking to get involved in the caliber. Even if you can find a S&W 632, that go for well over $1K used. S&W just did not make many of them.
I want this exact gun in .38/357. THE KEY HERE IS THE COLOR OF THE FINISH. IT IS BLUE/BLACK. A 60 Pro Series would probably work fine for me, but the finish is stainless. I want this gun in black. Did S&W ever make such a gun? The model designation would be a 337 or 637?

Here's my 36-6 (.38 Special, though and no "Comp"). Came from the factory with the Hogue grip.
Closest thing I know of.

OP HERE:
Wait, I guess I have been down this road before! I saved this screenshot on my computer a few years back. I just found it looking through some old gun pics trying to figure out what this model number for this gun would be.
Anyway this is the old M&P home page picture for M&P revolvers. Long gone from the S&W website. But here is the exact gun I am talking about! It was made as an M&P model. It says .357mag on the barrel. Anyone know what it is??? Is this an M&P 360 with a 3" barrel?
As I do more research on the M&P 360 3" I'm finding interesting things!
Here is an old Armslist ad for one:
ARMSLIST - For Sale/Trade: Rare 3 inch Smith & Wesson S&W M&P 360 .357 magnum with scandium frame
Here is a youtube video for one:
I guess I answered my own question, now I just need to find one. What would even be better would be a 3" version of the centennial style M&P 340! Have a feeling they didn't make those though.

On my surplus military rifle with a worn muzzle in gray park I used brownells alums Hyde II. The way we apply it is the key. I scrub the muzzle with 0000 steelwool, wash it with rubbing alcohol, pre heat it with a hair dryer, spray it once. It never wore off.

If the model number ended with 37...it would be an Air Weight 38 special J Frame.

No such gun from the factory, but you could make one. See if S & W or someone else will do a Melonite finish on the 60 Pro...problem solved (or need met ).

The setback on the front sight leads me to think it might be a Performance Center compensated that got past me. I have a 9mm (Barrel stamped 9mm CTG) Stainless PC and a .38 Special Stainless PC (Barrel stamped .38 SPL CTG)with a second 9mm cylinder that are configured like this.
In front of the front sight is a oval (sort of oval) shaped open port facing upward. The 36-6 and the 60-something in the late 1989s early 1990s were a short run of 3" Target sighted revolvers but not ported (as I can recall). As I collect Chief Special Target variations I originally purchased 3 of each but after 15 years the prices never went up. I sold those all except one in matte / bead blasted stainless. (and of course i kept the PCs)
Many people confuse the late 1980s version (bead blast / matte black) which is about a $850 ANIB and price them as the 36-1s with the 3" target barrel that go at LEAST $1500 and up ANIB.
There are a few 36-6, 3" bead blasted blue / black target modesl on that HorseBroker website. One guy has run one of the 36-6 models for the past 6 months thinking he has something that should cost more than the truly scarcer 36-1 Target. He hasn't even gotten anyone to sniff at it yet as he's way too high (monetarily and seems euphorically, too.)

The finish on the 36-6 may look the same, but I don't think it is, as my 36-6 finish is easy to mark and shows wear easily. Otherwise it's a fabulous gun.

The M360-1 Military & Police with adjustable sights and 3 1/8-inch barrel was product code 163067. Last one I saw had a 2002 date code, so I think they may of been made for just a short period of time.
If you want a blue/black 3-inch .357 J-frame, it might be easiest to just buy some flavor of Model 60 and have it coated with a high tech finish.

Is it just me or is that one sexy looking wheelgun? How is it possible S&W made a few hundred of these in the obscure 327 Magnum, but managed to never make a single one in 38/357?? I think this would be very successful in 38/357.

[QUOTE=HarrishMasher;139706706]Below is a picture of a S&W 632. It is a .327 Federal Mag 5 Shot J frame with a 3" barrel, adjustable sights, with a BLACK/BLUE finish.
Not to be TOO argumentative, but the pictured gun is clearly a 6-shot , with cyl. stop cuts directly over each chamber. Does that make it a .22? Or was the 632 a 6-shot .327? Please help to banish my ignorance.

The only 632s I've seen had six shot cylinders. I would expect a five shot cylinder to be some variety of 38... or did S&W reduce the round count in the more powerful 327? Wasn't one of the selling points for the 327 that you kept six reasonably powerful rounds in a smaller frame gun?

You are 100% right. My bad it is a 6 shot. If it was a 38/357 it would be a 5 shot. That is the advantage of the .32 round, you can get 6 shots in a J Frame cylinder.

Failing finding one, you might have your gun PVD'd. I did that to a stainless model 60 (.357) and there result are superb.

You lose the factory white and brown lettering that is not engraved when you refinish it that way.

OP HERE:
I should probably just be happy with my 3" K Frame that I picked up a 4 years back for $330
But I definitely have the itch for a 3" J Frame. Maybe even one of those 2.5" 437, 442, 637, 642 S&W ran a few times.
I'm actually going to take out my 65 Ladysmith this week and run some wadcutters through her. Last time I took her out about 8 months ago I remember putting all 6 rounds pretty much in one hole at 10 yards. I will post some pics after this session. Let's see if it is as I remember.
