Default Magna-Port on 629?

I just picked up this 629-5 with 4" barrel. It has the S&W Hogue grips. The end of the barrel has what looks like a Magna-Port job. I know that the S&W people had their own version that they called PowerPort, and it looked completely different. I was wondering if the S&W factory ever did the Magna-Port like this one. Or maybe this is something different.

S&W definitely produced at least a few limited-edition revolvers with Magnaporting. I am quite sure that they (and yours) were done by Magnaport.

Whether yours was commissioned by S&W or by the subsequent owner, I cannot say.

P.S. If you have the box, you or someone on this site (such as I) could look up the product code and tell you whether S&W commissioned it. Otherwise, I think that you would probably have to spring for a letter ($50 these days?).

My 629-1 special edition from RSR Wholesale back in 1983 came with Combat Stocks, polished trigger, and Magnaport.
