Ashamed of your S&W Lock? Don't be -
I titled my post in that way because there are too many folks here (and elsewhere, including Smith & Wesson) who will only take a picture of their revolver from the right side (non-lock side).
May I respectfully suggest that we all know the lock is there. The left side of the gun is really more interesting, isn't it? It contains the latch, the S&W Logo, the extractor rod, and in some cases the under lug.
Can't we all just get along? Show us the LEFT side of your S&W without shame!

Or, more appropriately, show it with shame, but show it.
Of course, the really interesting guns often have extra screws on the right side, and don't shame the owner from either side.

Furthermore... on the really nice and older S&W revolvers, the right side has the LARGE and classic S&W logo.
I don't think there is any shame involved in which side you show if you only show one side, especially if all you intend to do is show a cool picture of a revolver that you enjoy. However, if you are offering it for sale (either online or in a store, inside a case, where a perspective buyer is forced to see only one side) then you may appear to be a shifty/sneaky seller if you show an ILS-equipped S&W revolver's right side only.
Feel free to disagree, the masses will still call it as they see it.

Whenever I post about guns like my M60-15.
Someone posts, I have the previous generation of the same gun (60-10), but mine doesn't have a lock ... I never buy guns with locks.
So I've taken to posting back that my 60-15 is much stronger because it has 15 more years of metallurgical advances.
I don't know if that's true, but it makes me feel better to post it.

Every LGS in my area and all the big boxes their hardware is always shown lock side down. Lock side down and lockstep from the dealers!

Throughout the history of S&W revolvers engineering changes have occurred.They could possibly fall into 3 categories,improvements,fixes and cost cutting.Each is not without some disagreement as to it's merits.The hammer block may fall into pro and con.
The IL introduced a new category,political?
With the IL is found MIM parts,frame mounted firing pins and also some 2 piece barrels.Quality is very often in the news.
If you are in need of an S&W 8 shot 357 revolver you have no pre lock factory options.A pre MIM and IL 7 shot will be very hard to locate.
Does pre IL and pre MIM deserve premium?Supply and demand will rule the day.
Then again I see forum members proudly post about an altered gun, rescue or old timer that they just bought that I wouldn't give a second look.

I own two S&W "side lock" guns: a 327R8 and a 329PD.If there were models exactly like them without the lock,I would have bought them first. But there are not. So..they have both become 2 of my favorite shooters and the lock is just an ugly reminder of the times we live in. Lock be damned.

I often look at the S&W revolvers on backpage, the free gun trading and selling site. It does annoy me when they post a picture of the revolver with the latch hiding the Hillary Hole. It is more frustrating when they don't include the dash number so you can't even look it up. I say there are enough buyers who will buy a newer S&W with the HH, don't try to cover it up in the pictures, it will save some time. While I'm personally not a HH gun buyer , but to each his own.
