I finally got around to installing an Original Precision "Stainless Steel" Lock Delete to rid meself of the ugly lock my beloved 625 came with. With the lock... It looked like a pock mark that was itching to be filled. After an hour of fiddling with the parts and only after watching a Jerry Miculek YouTube video I had everything back together and working like a nicely timed clock. I also put a dab of Purple LocTite on the Yoke, Strain, Cylinder Release, and both Side Plate Screws after cleaning their threads thoroughly because all of them had backed out a couple of times during the first 1K rounds fired thru the revolver. Anyways, this is my dedicated "Woods Gun" in .45acp & .45Super and below are a couple pics. I feel better since the LocTite and now that the lock that was ugly is filled... It's actually an very attractive revolver that its screws now stay put sans light primer strikes...

Lastly, I replaced the stock (Patridge) front sight with an Orange insert OEM sight from S&W's customer service; that won't snag during presentation. I had previously lost the Patridge Gold Dot front sight by simply pulling it semi-fast out of a soft Belly Band Holster walking our GSD's in the neighborhood. We've had several coyote attacks on runners and neighborhood pets as of late. Anyways, Now for the Pics.

I just put one on my 627 PC as well. Getting that little fork that holds the spring in place was a pain in the ***.

Does yours have some play in it (as in you can push in the plug a hair)?

Getting the OEM fork out was enough to make me start cursing and kicking things off my workbench... But I held my composure... The de-install of the OEM parts were the most miserable part of the process that a "certain video" conveniently left out! The install of the Original Precision parts were the easy part once I watched the Jerry Miculek YouTube vids... As to your question about some play in the plug? No, it's solid and doesn't move a hair in or out not even a bit. There should be a disclaimer: "Do not try this unless you're ready to be fully annoyed and have done this before"; warning before you try this though I certainly agree!!!

As my Dad, who was a wood worker always told me...nothing better than a tight screw..Looks awesome, how does it shoot??

The plug is solid and has no play in it. As to how she shoots... It's gotten better each range trip trigger wise. It's now my favorite revolver and maybe even my favorite pistol of the bunch. I wish I would have installed the LocTite and Lock Delete much sooner as now nobody has to put up with that dreaded Hillary Hole in their frame anymore if they don't want to.

A little off track, but, how do you like the new sight as it compares to the original?

I put an original precision lock delete in my 66-8. I'm happy with it.

Valid question! It's much better in the presentation department that is for sure. That Patridge profile is akin to snagging on any piece of clothing and attracts such like a magnet. IMO, it never should be the front sight choice of a carry revolver, ever! I carry this piece 100% of the time at our second home in Highlands NC. Hell, I wore it last night to CVS...

The ramped sight is just as easy to pick up on while getting on target as the Patridge was and POA to POI is the exact same. I would do the swap again in a heartbeat. Never again would I have a Patridge sight on any serious firearm.

That is one good looking revolver you have there! Losing that miserable lock and installing a plug delete makes the new Smith's look like they should from the factory. And piece of mind from the "rare event" of the lock activating and stopping the action is an added benefit as well. Any new Smiths I may acquire in the future will certainly get a Lock Delete installed.

It looks really nice!

Do they make these kits for blued guns? I've only ever seen them for SS, Nickel, or matte black which would all stand out on my 586.

Thanks for the good words about the Lock Delete parts folks.

I own Original Precision, and was going to stay out of this thread so y'all could talk amongst yourselves without manufacturer interjection but I see epj couldn't resist so here y'all go.

Slug install video in response to any install questions.INTERNAL LOCK REMOVAL

I have been slammed working on a new moonclip tool and keeping up on Lock Delete parts so I can always ship same day or next work day but I will make sure that within the next 72 hours I make a factory lock part removal video and get it uploaded for y'all.

Here's what an ORD-BLK looks like in a blued thunder ranch 45. Is it a 100% color match, no it is not it is black, Ive never claimed to produce a blued match or something that resembles blued. I do have a blued Molyresin coated prototype but need to find a blued Smith in the Phx area so I can see the part in a gun before I can release a blued Lock Delete set (looked good sitting it against a blued frame in a local gun store but I need to see it in the hole). If you have a blued K L or N frame and live close and would like to work with me getting the color dialed in email [email protected]
and we will go from there.

Picture was sent to my email by the man that owns this gun. This is what he wrote

"Got the lock plug. Perfect. Thanks again.

Looks great on my Thunder Ranch 22-4.

Rgs,

Jeff"
