I'm almost embarrassed to admit that after 30+ years of S&W collecting, I only just realized how close the grip size actually is between K /L and N frames. ( Something discovered by accidentally installing a pair of N frame Pachmyar's on a model 64 and liking the results.)

So has anybody tried taking a pair on K frame wooden grips ( with closed front and back straps) and modifying them to fit an N frame?
Seems there are allot more affordable choices in K frame grips than N's.

I modified a 1917 that was rusty to k square. I've also seen several sets of k grips ruined by trying to fit them to N frames.
