I have a pre-lock S&W 629-3 stainless with an 8-3/8” barrel I purchased new around 1990. I most likely shot it once 25 plus years ago and it has been sitting in the safe since. Does anyone here know the current value for this firearm?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and consider my question.

Around my area 750.00 to 900.00 as it sits with ammo.

With all that ammo, I wouldn't sell for less than 1000, but that's just me. Heck, I probably wouldn't even sell the gun alone for less than 1000.

Those rubber Hogue grips with the silver medallions weren't on many revolvers and very short production time.

I would guesstamate the value that someone might pay to be around $900-$1000 because of condition and extras.

EDIT:Spec Order # from 261st day of 1991 used w/ original box/papers product code 103640 $700-$800 in excellent condition

If you would have stated that you live in Kalifornistan, we would probably told you to tack another couple of hundred to that price. Nice guns like that sell for more money in freedom-stunted states such as yours. Someone got them a good deal for California.

I checked on Calguns and a with a local dealer I know and the going price where I am located is $700.00 to $900.00. I decided to start at the high end since I was not in a hurry to sell. I only had one buyer willing to pay what I was asking. One of the offers was as low as $600.00. I had a few at $800.00.

Selling off roster guns can be difficult in CA because they can only be sold via a face to face private party transfer at a FFL dealer. In CA I can’t ship an off roster handgun to a CA FFL dealer to be transferred to an individual.

The 629-3 Classic is not that uncommon here. I imagine I will be able to ask for a significant premium for my 610 when I sell it.
