I thought there was a thread recently showing 4" 629 no dashes in presentation cases owned by forum members. (I'm too lazy to do a search) I thought I noticed that they were shown in the cases that point the barrel to the left (1974-1979 style) yet the 4 inchers didn't appear until 1981. Was I dreaming or did some of you contribute to that thread?
Bill Cross...do you know the answer to this?
I just bought a 4" 629 and would like to put it with a correct case.
Thank you for your time and consideration;
Mike
Mike-
Some (not many, I'm thinking--never say never with S&W) may have shipped in the earlier style case, but every one I've seen was in a case with the thick black plastic bottom liner (blue covering usually MIA), foam top, gun pointed right, tool compartment with removable cover.

Early 629 Collection, The No Dash Trifecta
OK guys, had a lot of time on my hands today since we are covered with 5" of snow and was able to find the post I thought I saw. Confirmed by a couple of highly respected collectors here that some 4" 629 no dashes were shipped in the earlier presentation case.
Thank you for the replies that were posted.
Mike
Here is the type presentation case liners a 629, no dash - pinned and recessed - "N" serial prefix, would have left the factory in.
The second pic is the type shipping carton it would have been in. Both of these cases have been recovered with a blue cloth.
