Were the serial # marked on inside of grips on smith 29-3?

Bought my 29-3 new thirty-five years ago. Don't believe they are numbered. I don't think the 29-2 I bought new in 1973 was numbered either. I'm guessing they stopped this practice long before then.

No. Target Stocks were standard on square butt 29-3s. After the first few years of Target Stock production it was very unusual for Target Stocks to be stamped with the revolver's serial number. Stamping the s/n on them stopped during the 1950s.

My 29-3 (made in 1982) has the original Target stocks. There is no serial number on the stocks.
