It's a dash 7 and product code 100934. Not very many were made, or at least, I've only seen a few. Probably won't find and lot of sold auctions on the -7.
It was the last variation before the lock, and therefore is built on a new style frame with frame mounted firing pin and MIM parts. That makes it a little less desirable. Even if we disagree, or don't care, there's no arguing lack of forged parts is a price deduct in today's market.
With box and docs $800 is not unreasonable, but in my view, that's the upper end.

I would pay that if I could find it here in California. We don't see many of those!

That is exactly what I needed to know! I recognized the lack of lock but wasn't sure about the mim parts. Thank you very much for that feedback. One thing I'd ask is what would you consider to be a reasonable offer as the seller is a lady who is selling her husbands collection (passed away two years ago). Don't want to rip her off but also don't think top dollar is fair for newer shooter condition revolver.

I saw one for sale at a gun show recently for $1000. I don’t think it sold that weekend

Well looking through GunBroker there weren't any .45 ACP versions that I could find for sale. Plenty of .45 colt and .44 mag for prices $600-$1200. The $600 range with days of time left on them or reserves not met. I'll have to try and remember how to look up the completed auctions to see where things are shaking out.

It's a desirable N frame being sold by a widow. Go with $750 and everybody feels good.

IHNSHO, the M625 .45 ACP Mountain Gun is the best fighting revolver ever built. It is light weight but still handles the .45 ACP round with ease. It loads and unloads, with full moon clips, quickly. The round butt allows it to fit, with your choice of grips, most everybody. As you have noted, there are not many out there. Ammo choices go from mild to wild and are much cheaper than .45 Colt.
Mine is on my night stand, next to a couple of good flashlights and an extra moon clip.

45ACP Mountain Gun
Pay the $800 and be done with it.
No tax, probably a nice widow, and has
no one to look after her, do the Noble thing.
Some day you might be in her shoes.
I, my self would have no qualms paying
the $800, at least I know who my money
is going to.

I think $750 is an excellent price and I’d grab it.
They were only produced for one year (2000) and I believe it was a stocking dealer special with less than 1000 produced.

Better jump quick on it. 800 is a steal. The 45 acp mountain guns are desirable and last ones I have seen have brought 1200 and up in the box.

As a number of very good men have said above, it is a good gun at a fair price, buy it. Tomorrow you will not be sorry and you will be glad you have it.

I cannot speak for the M625 .45 ACP exactly, but for the M624 .44 Special 4", which is in weight and balance basically the same as the aforementioned Mountain Gun. And I only can agree with Muley Gil: This gun is perfectly balanced and is very easy to shoot with this kind of cartridge (.45 ACP in a wheelgun is, if anything, marginally different from the .44 Special). I would make my decision not depending on the price.
best regards from Germany

Wow. The narrative of this thread certainly changed after the first response. Well I guess I need to make an offer before someone else does!
I will say in regards to comments about the balance of these guns, it was impressive for the size how well this revolver felt in my hand. Great balance and point ability for these mountain guns, kudos to Smith and Wesson for the design cause if they shoot as good as they feel it will be an impressive piece.
Last question, what's everyone's experience like shooting .45 ACP out of an N frame? Recoil seems like it would be minimal for the cartridge, weight and size of the revolver but I have never shot .45 out of a revolver before! I've got plenty of .38 and .357 which is why I have been drawn to this example.

Target loads in 45ACP in a 625 are like wadcutters in a 38. +P 230s are like a Skeeter load 44 Spl load in a Model 24/624. Both very accurate and enjoyable to shoot. I have owned 3 625s and a Model 22. Foolishly sold them all. Would give my eyeteeth for the gun you're considering!

You can shoot 45 auto rim without the clips or 45 acp with clips.
I shoot mine with hogue rubber Grips . They seem to fit my hand. That's subjective . I noticed those are nice rosewoods..? On that gun? Maybe 50-75 bucks on top of the gun. You may like them but rubber will certainly help reduce recoil.
I shoot 45 1911s and those normal loads snap a bit on a 4". So I load 10% reduced loads on my 45 and it still snaps ,but feels much better.
You have to try yours first and get a feel. I highly doubt you would regret it.

Buy it. That's a decent price for what is probably going to be a revolver you really like. If you decide later you dislike it, contact me and I'll buy it from you.

Thanks to everyone for the insights and support. It sounds like the general consensus is:
Great Gun
Good Price
Buy It
Enjoy It, if you don't plenty of people would buy it from me.
I appreciate the feedback everyone!

They are out there for sure. There were several on GunBroker. Just no .45 ACP's that I saw.

run..
For 750 I'd run as fast I could with it. I do not own one but would love to. My buddy told me to look out for that generation.
To me I see case color hardening on trigger and hammer and that tells me hammer mounted firing pin and forged parts.
On this gun I believe there is one MIM part and that is the thumb release. I have that on my 29-6 (with forged trigger, hammer) and the MIM release is smooth and excellent. Not a deterrent at all.
Throats should measure exact on that gun and this will shoot modern hardball really well which some of the old 25 will not.

While they usually are fainter, most S&W MIM hammers and triggers have case hardening colors. There are better clues to look for. MIM parts have shrinkage holes like the one visible in the underneath side of this 625's trigger. Frames with MIM hammers have the stud that blocks the cylinder's rearward movement while open forged as part of the frame. Older frames for forged hammers have a pressed in stud. Also, the pivot pin for hammer mounted firing pins is visible with the hammer forward.
To the O.P.;
With it established that this revolver has MIM internal parts you would be wiser waiting for a revolver without them. What did you say the widow's phone number and address are? I want to take her a box of cookies.

k22, thank you I learned something new on MIM case colors, very interesting. The hammer looks also more rounded and the trigger has some bridging over the hollow center whatever you call it.
Anyway, the lack of a lock does it for me and I am firm at 750, even 800 since you are talking a widow who deserves some good fortune.

If I knew her name I would consider sharing it! My FFL that handles my transfers was shooting buddies with the gentleman who passed. He was asked to handle the sales and transfers of these firearms. The guy had a good taste in firearms, mostly military rifles, lever actions and Smith revolvers. If any of you think you would be interested in knowing more I can send you the list of firearms (minus serial numbers) and connect you with my guy. Just PM me. If this is in poor taste for the forum I apologize and mods can delete my post if they want. I don't want to break any rules. Thanks!

I don't think you could go wrong buying it. A 45ACP mountain gun is one of my revolvers that gets a lot of range time. Full moon clips are great!

Yep exactly. The 45 acp mountain guns are scarce and there has no been any that have sold in the last 3 months on gunbroker. All 629's and 625-7 45 colts.

The op's 625 mountain gun is not a dash 7. There was no dash 7 45 acp mountain guns, the dash 7's were 45 long colt. Even the easier 45 long colt dash 7 mountain guns are bringing 900 plus in the box. The more scarce 625 45 acp mountain guns were dash 5 and dash 6 and have not seen any sell recently and last two I seen sell brought over 1200 in the box.

In today's market $800 seems very fair. Here is my 625-6 Mountain gun in 45 ACP. It was shipped February 18th, 2000. P.S. I wouldn't sell this one for $800!

Actually there are 625-7 .45 ACP Mountain Guns, and 625-6 .45 Colt Mountain Guns. I own examples of each. In June 1996 I purchased a brand new .45 Colt Mountain Gun. The frame is marked 625-6. I purchased a brand new .45 ACP Mountain Gun in March 2000, the frame is marked 625-7. The only other .45 ACP Mountain Gun I have seen in person was also a 625-7.

Would love to see some pics of the 625-7. 45 acp mountain gun you have. I was under the impression the 45 acp mountain guns only came in dash 5 and dash 6. I owned them both at one time still have the dash 6.

Just for the sake of clarity, my guys spreadsheet seems to suggest that this example is a 625-6 not a 625-7. This may make a difference or he may have made a mistake when reviewing the guns/typing everything up. The label on the box doesn't indicate one way or the other.

The label will not show the engineering change (-6 or -7). This information is stamped on the frame after the model number (625-6).

One of your nice pics of your SAC would be admired. Show the OP what a .45 ACP Mountainish Gun with forged internals looks like.

For reasons only S&W could explain, they made the -7 in BOTH .45 Colt and .45 ACP. (The Colt guns were product code 130045). Seen them with my own eyes. Other members on this thread have one. Just one of the many examples of S&W's proclivity to throw us a curve ball every now and then with what we think the "rules" are.

dmthomp32, I've been offered $1000 for my 625-9 "Mountain Gun" in 45 Colt. I passed selling it. It is a joy to shoot. You'll certainly enjoy a 625 in 45 ACP.
S&W 625-9 "Mountain Gun" in 45 Colt
Thanks for looking at my Mountain Gun.
God bless,
Birdgun

BUY THAT GUN IMMEDIATELY, FOR THE $800. THAT THE WIDOW IS ASKING. THAT'S A VERY REASONABLE PRICE, FOR A GREAT LOOKING REVOLVER......
WILL IT GIVE YOU A WARM FEELING TO KNOW, THAT YOU BEAT THIS WOMAN DOWN, FOR A $50. OR $100. DOLLAR BILL ? ? ? HOW WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR WIDOWED MOTHER, OR WIDOWED WIFE TO BE TREATED, IN A SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCE ? ? ?
VERY FEW OF US WILL ADMIRE YOU AS, "A SMART GUN BUYER"......

Sold one just like it in 99% condition last fall for $1050.00. The .45 ACP is probably the best Mountain Gun caliber as it throws a big fat bullet with modest recoil. And if you want the gun will also eat .45 Super rounds...
You can load .45 Auto Rim with 255 grain cast bullets to the same velocity as most .45 Colts are running...
Only sold mine as it was never getting shot compared to my .41s which always get shot...

I would get it.I love 45acp revolvers.I have a pair of 625-9s.Since they have the lock. I feel no shame about sending one off to get milled for 45acp.That way I can shoot 45 colt and 45acp.

They have to be one of the best S&Ws ever made...
I've had:
2 629-2s
1 629-4
3 657s
2 625s in .45 ACP
2 625 SA Commemoratives
Never had one in .45 Colt as it's one caliber I don't care to load for... The one I kick myself for never buying is the 686 .357...a wonderfully balanced gun...
I'm just down to one 657 now...that is really all I need.

I think Ranch Products is the default for moon clips. (One guy's opinion, YMMV.) I shoot ball most in 45ACP revolvers, but the great thing is that the defensive loads proven for LE (use Dr. Roberts' list) will all work fine. My choice is mostly the 230 grain Gold Dot of which I bought a lot when my old agency issued it, but I also have some of the 185 grain all copper +P from Black Hills. I have a few rounds of Georgia Arm 45AR with the Gold Dot, and it makes a tiny group that makes me look good.

I’d say you’re VERY lucky! Congratulations on your new .45!
Don’t worry much about the price. At $800, I think it more than a “good” price. Maybe not a screamer, but way on the good side of good. I’d have gladly paid that.

You were very fortunate to be able to get this revolver. They are not plentiful. The price was also decent. This is one of my favorite range revolvers. You did GOOD!

I have used factory S&W moon clips, cheapy gunshow bulk bin moon clips and RIMZ poly moon clips... I use the steel clips for competition or carry and RIMZ for bench target shooting... my best advice, buy a good de-mooning tool... well worth the investment... happy shooting.

I would suspect the deceased gentleman left his wife with a catalog of his firearms and what he considered their value. I suspect most of us do the same.
I would pay her what she is asking and consider it a bargain. I have recently purchased two S&W revolvers from a widow lady; although through a third party consignment.
