Lew Horton Letter
Quick Question ? If I have a letter from Lew Horton documenting my gun from S&W as 1 of 18. Do I need the letter from S&W also ? Or is LH enough ?

Is LH enough for what?
Only you can determine if you have all the information you want or not

What else do you need? The SWCA letter will likely tell you what you already know, that your gun is part of the Lew Horton order and was sent to them for distribution.

The LH letter does not specify all the options ? Just states two tone finish , 1 of 18 from smith, arrival date from smith, s/n and product code. Just wanted to make sure that is all I need before spending $75 to s&w. Thanks for your input.

I have a letter from Earl Minot at LH about a S&W revolver that was 1 of 502. S&W shipped to gun to LH in April 1989.
I have no idea if Roy Jinks' letter would offer much more detail on such a recent gun. I'll save that $65 for another one of my older S&Ws.
My two bits.

Being new to the forum, would someone advise me as to the value of the $75.00 letters mentioned, and how do I inquire about said letters?

Yep... save your money.
I have a Performance Center 4006 that the factory letter was only able to confirm it as being shipped to Lew Horton on 12/17/2002, with Roy saying that "company records do not provide good history on the newer units".
It is rumored that only 12 were made, with 4 being sent to Lew Horton.
S&W had no production numbers/info available to verify the total numbers made, and Earl Minot at Lew Horton was only able to confirm that 4 were received from S&W, and mine was one of those 4.
As often said by Roy Jinks, "S&W is in the business of making and selling firearms, not keeping detailed records for collectors, in as much as what collectors would like it to be".
S&W's main record keeping objective is to comply with BATF regulation in firearms disposition reporting... the who, what, when and where of it, when the firearm leaves the factory.
The fact that S&W eliminated the Historian position (Roy's job), kind of drives that point home.

An inquiring email to Lew Horton gets a free response.
I don't have that e-mail address handy.

I think it may be beneficial to know if the work was done at S&W or if LH received standard production revolvers then had then refinished.
