Night Sights For S&W 500 Magnum

Guys,

I know this has been touched on before elsewhere but I still haven't seen any realistic option for night sites on my Big Bore Revolver. Looking for something to help me aim in case Smokey the Bear decides to make a meal out of me during low light/no light conditions. Anybody out there have any suggestions?

The only nighttime bear attacks I know of involve a bear going after folks in a tent.

I doubt that night sights would be helpful at inside the tent ranges, unless you’ve got a penthouse sized tent.

They would be helpful for sure at that time. But a Stream-Light "Pro-Tac 2LX" is a great and powerfully bright handheld flashlight that is easy use & hold while firing a revolver in little to no light on the trail. It's what I carry when at our family mountain home in Highlands NC. There are no streetlights after dusk and it's damned dark when taking the dogs out. I'm very comfortable using it when firing/training with my M29 and M629 concomitantly!

Brownels carries this {there is also another set that has a sight where you replace the entire front, made by Meprolight. I'm not sure if it fits the X frame

I put a set on both my 3 inch 629 and on my 2 3/4 inch 69 for the same reason. They help long before you need any flashlight in the woods.
I put the sets on where you replace the entire front sight and re-drill . Brownells is where I got them.

Could you post some pics of our night sights in low light? I'd love to have a set myself because I'm in the same situation as the OP... Thanks,

Sorry, I have no way to post pictures on this site. Besides I doubt they would show you what you want. The night sights just show slightly more as the daylight leaves. They only glow when it's dark. Handy about the time the skunks start showing up. {something you probably want sights for}

I have installed many sets of Tru-Dots, Mepro's, and Trijicon's on 1911's, M&P's, and CZ's for my own personal pistols and for clients. However, I've never seen a set on/made for a revolver; and have always thought to myself, why the hell not have at least the front sight tritium on a revolver, (because the front sight is all your going to be able to get on target in a SD situation.) I wish the availability of night sights on revolvers were as prevalent as the plethora of options that are made for semi-auto's.

As for posting pics on this site... Set up an Imgur.com account (free), take pics with your cellphone. Text or email your pic(s) to your email account; save pic(s) to computer and then upload them to Imgur.com. Then imgur will give you a direct link that you can post here. It's a good way to keep pics of what you have for insurance purposes stored safely off-site.
 
Thanks for the response guys. Thus far I haven't found a solution other than to use Hi Viz sights which only work when there is some light to speak of. The search continues.......
 
I personally use a Trijion RMR sight mounted on Picatinny rail mount on my 460V. Target view is rather narrow, but it eliminate the need for any lights.
 
If it's just for a short period of time, the cheapest option is Glow On paint. You have to charge the paint with a flashlight for a few seconds but it glows for quite awhile. For the .500 the red dot sight would be a good option.

I like the idea of weapon mounted lights and that would be my preference. It's fairly easy to add a picatinny rail to a revolver, I even have a LaserLyte picatinny rail for J frames.
I would recommend a light that is easy to detach for use as a handheld light if you're going to be using it in the woods.
