I have done various searches but a firm answer has eluded me.

On a 627 Pro Series (4" barrel), if I install a LPA txt adjustable rear sight on the gun, would either the stock front sight (.250" tall I believe) or an aftermarket sight of the same height work with that particular rear sight? Or do I need something taller, maybe .300"? My preference is to use a shorter front sight as long as it is usable.

My understanding is that the longer the barrel, the taller the front sight may need to be, and vice versa, but could be totally off on that. And I was hoping someone here had knowledge relative to that specific rear sight.

Thanks for any info.

You could buy the set with the matching front sight

Or you could just ask the Manufacturer. I have found them to be quite helpful over the years

Asking the manufacturer is a good idea, of course. I didn't order the matched set because I don't particularly like that style of fiber optic front sight, and would prefer a HIVIZ or Dawson Precision. The front sight is listed as a .275 height, so right between some manufacturers' options of .250 and .300. I'm thinking maybe they offer it in that height as a compromise to cover various lengths of barrel between 2.5 and 8+

Unless I hear something to the contrary here, I think I'll end up going with a .250" front sight for my 4" barrel, and then actually shoot it and see how that works.

BTW what brand front sight do you have on your gun (if that's your own gun in the picture; it's very artistically shot)? It doesn't look like the sight being offered as part of a set with the rear LPA txt (see pic below). What height is it?

Yes that is my gun. As a writer and photographer I am very sensitive to violation of copyright and only post my own images or give proper credit to the source of images that I do not own the rights to

That is the front sight that came in the olden days. Remember, that revolver is about 15 years old now.

I would have to pull the revolver out and measure the sight. I need to see if I know where a micrometer is in the new house (I hate moving). I have not set up the hand loading room yet :(

I have used the LPA TXT rear sight on several guns - 3 7/8" 646; a 4.2" Brazil 586-4; a 625-8 PC 4" and a 627-4 PC 5 1/2", all with the stock front sight height. The front sights were either Dawson Precision or HiViz FO, but the same height as the stock sight that came off the gun.

The Pro comes with the interchangeable front sight, so easily replaced if the LPA doesn't work with the stock height blade.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

I'm going to use the highly reliable "eyeballing" method and say the front sight on your 5" is probably around .275-.280" tall. And you appear to have the rear LPA cranked up just a bit. So I'm thinking the .250 on my 4" will work, even if I have to crank the rear down all the way.

Those are the Jerry Miculek designed grips that Hogue manufactures

The ones sold on Hogues site do not have the JM logo on them. The ones with the JM logo are available on Jerry's sight

I had trouble using the LPA with the stock front sight so I added a Dawson Precision .300 front sight and it works great. I really like the looks of the LPA.

Modified my LPA sight.

I like the LPA rear sight but I don't like tall front sights so I modified my LPA base to work with the stock front sight on my 617. I had to mill out the base of the sight so it would go lower, can't even tell it was modified. The stock black Patridge front sight is my favorite to use on most all my handguns. I first tried the LPA sight on my 4" 617-6 (it shot too high) but it worked better on my 6" 617-2.
