Default Model 60 problem solved(Knock on Wood)

Last week I picked up a model 60 no dash. Some of you read my unhappy thread. Towards the end of the thread I changed my tune. I decided to look at it as a rescue. The seller sold me a gun with an unfitted yoke screw. It had been backed off a few turns and red loctited in place. I also discovered excess end shake. It measured between .005-.006. depending on if you measured the top of the FC or the bottom(FC not perfectly at 90 degrees). It also depended on if I held my breath or not and what phase the moon was in. Well, to top it off it came with Crimson Trace laser grips(maybe on a 442, but a 60 no dash??).

I fitted the yoke screw, installed two .002(Custom Power) end shake bearings, replaced the grips and polished some of the filth and carbon off it. I didn't go hog wild with the polish. Range test this weekend. Hoping she's good to go now. This is one rescue that staying put. Good news, Crimson Trace is sending me an adjustment tool at no charge. I thought that was nice of them. I couldn't sell them without a way to adjust them. I may end up keeping them anyway. Depends on what I run into to next.

I wanted to add: I forgot to add that the rebound spring had to be the original one. It had coils ground down on both ends. Replaced it with a #14 Wolff rebound spring. Much better.

I hope you do have that gun sorted out now. Are factory yoke screws not interchangeable? I can see how someone might get a regular screw in the yoke hole. Most people don't know the yoke screw isn't the same as the other screws.

I bet a prior owner shot a bunch of Plus P ammo, accounting for the cylinder endshake. If you use that only for very occasional practice and when needed in the field, the gun should last well. It seems to have cleaned up very well, too.

Are the Magna grips from S&W or maybe some Thai firm? They look different somehow. But very nice.

Keep those CT lasergrips, 99bob, at least long enough to give them a try. They don't replace your sights when you can seen them, but they are a huge difference in low and no light situations. They can also help you with practice to improve your grip and trigger pull. I don't pay much, if any, attention to them in daytime. I'll just say that I don't have an EDC gun these days that are not so equipped. Been doing that for a very long time now, and I would not be without them. I bet you'll find a place for them. Mine, except for one set, each have the more extended grip with the rubber overmolding on the grips due to the size of my hands. Getting those in on the deal was icing on the cake as far as I am concerned! Glad you got it up and running, and I hope it works out well for you! BTW, I have an M-60 no dash too.

Yoke screw before the detent design were not interchangeable and required fitting. I got the stocks off of Midway. The color is a little darker than I expected, but it's growing on me.

I can see me keeping them and maybe picking up a 442 or similar. Not like I'm going to stop buying J frames. LOL...I'm not dead yet.

NOW IMHO, THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL REVOLVER---ESPECIALLY ENHANCED BY THE ADDITION OF THE TYLER-T. IT WAS WELL WORTH YOUR RESCUE EFFORTS.....

I'M CERTAIN THAT YOUR RANGE EXPERIENCE WILL DRIVE YOUR DECISION MAKING, BUT THAT LOOKS LIKE A KEEPER TO ME......

Thanks and I know how you feel. I had two 39-2 a few years ago. I sold one to a friend. I've been trying to figure a way to get it back and re-unite the two.
