model 19-5 matte black
Hello everyone I picked up this excellent condition model 19-5 (AYY18xx) yesterday at a gun show. I have never seen an older model 19 with this finish and it caught my attention right away. After looking around the forum I found out that it is a Diplomatic security service gun. Any care to enlighten me a little more about this? If someone with a book can let me know what year it was made it would be much appreciated!

Normally the Dept of State, Secret Service, and Marine Corp models that are matte like that have Pachmayrs and not Uncle Mike’s.

Good to know! I like the uncle mikes just fine myself. I could see myself putting the Pachmayrs on it at some point and using the uncle mikes on something else.

Cool gun. In addition to the possible agencies mentioned above these were also known to have shipped to the CT State Police, and some may have been sold on the regular market as production overruns. A letter of authenticity would be the only way to tell.

Enjoy!

OP...Thanks for posting and congrats on your Model 19 find. I've had the pictured M19-3 for sometime now and figured someone decided to coat it low-luster when it was magna ported. It also has target hammer & trigger. Could it possibly be another agency set up as described in your post?
Thoughts?

The matte blue 2.5" M219-5's in the early AYY range were made for the Connecticut State Police and shipped in August, 1988.
Like the earlier DSS 19's, the CTSP revolvers also had the smooth target triggers.

Very cool guns. I like matte blued or parkerzing the best out of any finish.
