I have a model 10-10 that was originally a California Department of Corrections revolver. Do any of you guys know which specific holster(s) they used? It came with rubber Pachmayr grips, but did CDC ever use wood grips on their 10-10s? Thanks for any insight.

I was an armorer in the Department. There was a wide variety of grips used though I believe most were whatever came with the revolvers when they were originally ordered. So yes, many revolvers used by the Department had wooden grips. As for holsters or leather gear in general, there was no standard type used. Each institution within the Department ordered it's own. Quoting from page 206 of the 4th ed of the catalog concerning a Department order of 10-10s, "Model 10-10 laser marked "CDC" for California Department of Corrections, 4" heavy barrel, Uncle Mikes grips, Blue Finish, serrated backtrap and forestrap, MIM thumbpiece, Smooth trigger, Product Code 100124."

Here's a picture of mine but I replaced the original grips with a set of Culina bubble maple finished with tung oil.

Thanks for the awesome information! I checked again, I actually have the Uncle Mike rubber conversion grips. Laser marked on mine is “HDSP LS-2219”. I assume HDSP is High Desert State Prison.[/QUOTE

Yes, you are correct, that is High Desert which is located North of Reno, NV but, of course, in CA.
