Just picked up at S&W 617-4 4” 10 shot today. Can’t find to much info or recent sales on a 4 inch stainless steel 10 shot. It’s really clean with original box. Thanks for any info and pricing.

Those are fine revolvers and congratulation on acquiring one.

If you can tell me how much you paid, then I can tell you exactly how much it's worth.
:)

My 617-4 6 inch is a beauty, Cost me $500 as you see it in total.

Very nice indeed. You have $500 in the gun, rail, Ultra Dot, and speedloaders? That's what I see in total. Or did you mean just the gun?

The kitchen-table FFL I have dealt with quite a bit has had a 4-inch 617-6 available for months for $600 and it hasn't sold. It looks new - but Mr. McGoo must have done the final polishing at S&W + it has the H. Hole. Hate to say this on SWF, but I paid $335 for my Mk IV Standard and the finish on it is an order of magnitude better.

The 617-4 does not have the lock. I know you can get the newer ones with the lock way cheaper. I believe this is the only model with 4” barrel with a stainless steel 10 shot cylinder without a lock. I’ve seen them on GB for $2k. But I know that’s probably extreme.

Bought it as you see it. I have added a new S&W rear sight assembly, and the 22LR bullets. And it is a dash -4 with no internal lock.

I agree with just about everything you said. Don’t know that 2G’s is obtainable, if so, I would sell my boxed -4.
I’m thinking about $1,000-1100 maybe a little bit more to the right buyer.
I paid much less but it has no relevance, imo, as it was not last week or last month. HTH

Without photos, and accepting a range of what might be called "really clean" I'd say your guns' FMV is somewheres $1000 to $1400/$1500. I own a really clean 4" 617-4 myself that I've considered selling on and off, and have viewed quite a few comparable auction sales.

The 617-4 was only made for some months before the lock showed up, so not only is it the only 10-shot prelock 617 ever made w/ a steel cylinder, it's also not very common.

Your 4" is also worth well more than a comparable 6" 617-4, I suspect cuz the 6" (used to own one) weighs about a ton....
