Has anybody shot both the 8 3/8s and the 10.5 inch PC model 500? I'm debating on if the 10.5 inch PC is worth the extra price tag over the 8 3/8s?

Hope this helps.
I'd like a 8.375" with no comps at some point to match my K22 and 8.375" dagger ..... O2 steel under construction.
The other will be my boat line chopper plus. ;)

What do you plan on doing with the revolver?

If your just shooting paper- no value to have a PC

If hunting consider the type of hunting your going to be doing- the 10.5" will be fine from blind and situations where you have support, not so much for spot and stock.

Found the answers to velocity differences, and actual barrel length of the 8.375"/7.375" but would like to know the actual barrel length of the 7.5" , whether the comp can be removed and still function properly.
The 7.5" looks like a better choice for my needs.
Then there's the lead vs jacketed issues.
The kids can buy the rifles we still need.

Who needs a Corvette.

thx

The Model 500 is cool to have and shoot, but too much money for what you get in practical terms. I cannot tell a man what he wants, but you may have less expensive ways of scratching whatever he itch is. Being practical, if I may, the longer barrel will somewhat increase the velocity and accuracy of the expensive rounds. Do you load your own rounds?

The comps on the PC versions are fixed and not intended to be removed. The comp also serves as the tensioning nut for the barrel shroud.

I will be using it for both hunting and target shooting I plan to reload it. Not to worried about the velocity with the barrel length being it won't be shot past 100-150 yards very often. Just wasn't sure if the PC would have a better trigger/features that would justify the extra 350$

The trigger may or may not be better. I have had several regular production guns with better triggers than some PC guns. I am specifically referring to X-frames, 460s or 500s.

I would choose the barrel length suited to your hunting activities. The 10.5" is challenging to shoot off hand and I would suggest support or shooting sticks under most conditions. Scoped I would definitely want shooting sticks. I have hunted several times with 10.5" barrel successfully but choose to use 7-8 " lengths the vast majority of the time.

It is good to hear you will be reloading for it as you will be able to tune the ammunition to specific application and gun.

Choose the bullet for desired terminal performance. I would also add you are correct in not getting fixated on velocity. You will find the 500 S&W Mag very friendly to reload and surprisingly accuracy tends to be good over a large velocity spread compared to other cartridges.

Was reviewing older threads/posts on the net deciding on a second X frame as I like to fit stocks/grips to two handguns when bedding etc etc.
This one was about what happens when you hold a muzzle heavy gun incorrectly.

Redneck... my apologies for not paying attention, as if I was pulling a Hansom cab/carriage around Central Park in NYC.
Didn't mean to demote to a marginal caliber.:D

With that hold shooter's looking for a world of pain

I picked up a 10 5/8” PC in a trade. At 80+ ounces I figured I rather carry a rifle and dumped it. I like my 4” for target shooting and bragging rights. Stopped carrying it afield after moving from Alaska.

I have shot both but I can’t speak for the accuracy or anything regarding the 8 3/8s, my brother owns it and I shot it before I was really into big bore handguns. Needless to say neither one of us could hit anything with it.

Now that was a few years ago. Long before I got accustomed to shooting 44 mags and 454 casulls. A year or so ago I bought a lightly used 10.5 inch PC 500 mag for around the price a used 8 3/8s would go for. I thought at the very least I could get my money back out of it if I didn’t like it. Well it’s not going anywhere because it plain shoots lights out. I was really surprised I was able to shoot it offhand with open sights as well as any of my other big bore revolvers. The single action trigger is arguably the best I’ve ever felt.
